Upon arriving at the airport, you will have to line up to get through immigration. Depending on the day and the time of day you arrive, it can take 30-90 minutes to get through immigration. Then you will be able to proceed to the baggage claim pick up. After picking up your luggage, you will have to pass through a security check. Then you will be able to proceed to exit the airport.

Getting to Your Hotel

Hotel Zone: If you have airport transportation to your hotel included in your airline ticket, then proceed outside where you will see tour representatives with signs from your tour operator. If you do not have hotel transfers, just pick purchase tickets at the exit of the airport. You will need to purchase a ticket per person. Just tell them the name of your hotel and the representative will sell you the ticket and tell you where to go. The mode of transportation is generally an airport transfer van called a "collectivo").

Mayan Riviera: For those traveling to the Mayan Riviera (anywhere from Cancun - Puerto Morelos - Playa Del Carmen - Akumal - Tulum) you can purchase a ticket for a "collectivo" or a bus ticket for half the price (scheduled).

Taxis are also available outside but are much more expensive than a "collectivo" and buses. The fastest and easiest way is to use the collectivo.

Tip: There will be baggage handlers who will want to help you with your luggage. Expect to tip anyone who helps you with luggage.

Timeshare Warning: There are lots of people at the airport who will claim to know who you are (i.e. your hotel representative). They are timeshare salesman and will try to get you to participate in a hotel viewing for a gift or a tour. Expect to spend a whole morning or afternoon for a presentation.

Airlines: Many of the international airlines fly into Cancun city and during high season, you can get good charter flights from the US and Canada.
