Alamo usually has an internet rate that is better...++

The freedom of having a car is great.  You can stop when and where you want on a whim.  I say rent.

Alamo does not have cars at the airport. Thier operation center is located just south of La Ceiba, and north of the international pier. They will not pick you up at the airport.

No Alamo at the airport. They claim they will come and get you if you call them. However I have not had the pleasure of trying that yet. Used them last yeay and everything was smooth, but we went to pick up the car.  nm

Alamo is still in town

The downtown office is closed, but they have offices at the Port and at Sol Cabanas del Caribe.  And I was just quoted a GREAT rate from them for our week in March...$155 including taxes.  The prices I got from Avis and from Budget were about $100 higher.  We rented from Alamo in Feb with no problems whatsoever.

Alamo is just south of La Ceiba, before you get to the international pier. They have better rates than most of the other rental agencies. You can reserve a car online, or call Alamo to talk to a REAL person. We have a car reserved for Feb, so, don't steal it from us Terri.

P.S.... Should have the stuff in the hands of the guys in the brown uniforms Wed. My friend disappeared for a few days, but she's bringing the gear here tonight.

Try the on line specials. Then go to car rentals. I got a good rate from Alamo for a week rental ($140). Smart car also has a special internet rate but make sure you print a copy and bring it with you.
If you like convenience, Avis and Executive are at the airport.

Alamo.  We reserved the vehicle on line before we left and then picked it up.  No problems at all.  However, I have heard they are closing the end of the year.

Alamo - $124/wk

We rented a car from Alamo last week for $124/wk (US).  This was the internet special rate for a non-airconditioned, manual, economy car.  We also paid $5/day liability insurance.  We didn't need to take out the collision insurance (about $13/day) as we were covered by our own auto policy for rental cars.  When we got to Alamo, they didn't have the car we ordered so we were offered a Geo Tracker (automatic) for the same price.  We really enjoyed it for driving around the island.

We rented from Alamo Sept. 2000. We could not get in touch with anyone at the office from the airport. We took the free ride to the hotel and checked in. We called from the hotel untill someone (Freddy Ventura Dzul) at the office. They sent someone to pick us up at the hotel and took us back to office were we picked up our car. They also gave us a free ride to the airport when we returned our car. Tel #. 011-52-987-2-44-46

I've book an Alimo VW for $128.00 for the week, Ext & Avis wanted $221.00 well worth the Van price to go down town.

Audrey(my wife) picked the car up at Alamo a few hours before I arrived . Too pictures(thankyou Scubajim)at all angles and left . Well almost she told me later they would not accept her Visa Platinum Card for the insurance and charged her $5 per day for who knows what kind of Insurance.
Well she relayed this info to me and I have sent her back to Alamo. So far they are doing the Mexican Hat dance about this  whole problem.
Soooooo my question to all who have used "Alamo" IS : Did you HAVE to pay for insurance to get the car???? ( I have used them in the past and did not have to pay this ) Might have been because she being a woman was a marked subject walking in the door? YT Richard and Pepita(still home in Chicago alone in the snow!)

didn't see anyone at the airport.  We used alamo and they had locations in town and at the cruise pier.  Dosen't help to ask the reservation dept.  They told me Alamo was at the airport.  I noticed that many of the hotels (Plaza Las Gloria's, El Presidente) had desks in their hotels.  Cars are hawked all over town with really good prices.  There didn't seem to be a rental car shortage anywhere.  The days the ships are in are the worst since cruisers either pre reserve or through the ship reserve in advance and then the rentals are harder to find.  Alamo told me that the US Res agents just keep renting even though they have no more cars.....
