Comments: Stopped in Cozumel on a cruise for one day. This was our first time in Cozumel, what a beautifull place. Rented from Avis near the port with excellant servicefrom Marta.  Had a very new looking Jeep. Toured the east side, my wife fell in love with Playa Bonita-very nice without the crowd.
Lunch at Coconuts just down the road from Playa Bonita. Also spent some time at Paradise beach-also very nice.

We will be back to see Avis, Playa Bonita and Coconuts.

Skip, yes, Avis is right at the terminal and very convenient. It is a good idea to take the insurance as Mexico does not recognize insurance coverage from the U.S. or Canada. While your insurance company at home may reimburse you upon your return to the States, if you get into an accident in Mexico and don't have Mexican insurance you will likely be taken and held in jail until fault is determined and usually that mean a cash payment of $1000 or more before you are released and allowed to leave the country.

Avis at the airport is great! Book online for a lower price and they will have the car waiting for you.

gave us the best rate - we are getting a Chevy Pop(which we have had before) for $261 for 2 weeks total- the first 2 weeks of Feb 04. You want to rent a car that can be locked.

But it is so much fun to ride around the island topless.... Please take the insurance....for peace of mind value it is really worth the extra money....

Comments: Best deal I have ever gotten on Cozumel. We were upgraded to a Jeep for like free. It was spotless! $182 for 7 days. We always pass on the extra insurance and the agent didn't show me the fake notification from some Mexican Gov official stating that All Americans Have To Have Extra Insurance or Else! A very first class operation and I will use them again in Feb.

We rented Tracker from Avis at airport,...no A/C but was automatic.  Had a good experience with them.

I used avis got a nice A/C car . $212 for 8 days and that included all the taxes. Most credit cards offer protection so you do not need the extra insurance they try to sell you

Hi All, I can't believe I've stayed away from this board for so long. It's been great to catch up.

Anyway, I was just confirming my flights on continental and they asked if i was interested in a car from Avis (at airport). I booked a 'volkswagon pointer', $181.45 base, $219 aftertax and all fees. Looking for opinions from anyone on whether 1) this a good deal? 2) will this hold 3 divers, gear and luggage, etc. (says it holds 4 and 3 small suitcases)

Anyway I'll have a group of 13 at Cas del Mar and we'll be diving with Aqua Safari. January 18-25

Looking forward to meeting old friends

cheers
Mark

Rented a car for the week at Avis at the Airport $184.00

Taxis have gone up alot!! I would never use one again $20.00 one way from downtown to Iberostar! when you can get a car at Avis or Executive for under $200.00 for the week right at the airport. Use your master card and they pick up the insurance too!!

I've always booked online with Avis and I've never had a problem...

I've had great luck with Avis and Budget and Smart Car isn't a Smart choice (IMO)....      (nm)

I usually use Budget when I have to rent a car, my dad uses Avis once off of the internet and they were at the airport and ready for them.

We got tracker from avis in terminal, reserved by phone...

in advance, got good price I thought and it was so convenient and the people at the desk were wonderful, no hassles

rented from Avis online for 161 a week

I just booked a car through Avis for next week.  It's real simple to sign up online.  I reserved the Chevy Pop manual, the cheapest they offer.  It is listed at $119 plus tax and fees.  It comes to $130 for the week.

I printed off the confirmation and I hope my car will be ready for me when we arrive on Saturday.  I'm assuming that even if they are out of the Chevy Pop, that my printed confirmation will allow me to upgrade at no extra cost...

try booking a car thru avis at the airport online.
we booked a low class car and were upgraded to a convert. for 7 days for 139.00  book the lowest class  from what i hear they are never in stock.  if they happen to be in stock it is still only $19 per day

Drove by Punta Sur yesterday and it was open. Didn't go in as I was on my way to the airport, so I don't know if you can go in the lighthouse or not but the park is open.

I rented a car from Avis over the internet and got a small Chevy with air conditioning that worked for $177 (includes tax) for the week.  Was very happy with the car, except when I went to return it nobody was at the Avis desk to receive it.  Waited there for over an hour for the attendant to return and finally had to leave the key with the Executive Car Rental attendant at the desk next to Avis'.  I hope he gave Martha (Avis attendant) the key.  I will be checking my credit card regularly to make sure everything went as anticipated.  Still, very happy with the rental.
