Comments: Very very clean and lovely landscaping, but pool much smaller than website would have you believe!  (that person in a tube must have been Photoshopped in)  Also, queen beds are advertised, but ours was much shorter than a U.S. queen, which was a disappointment because my husband is 6'4" and full-size beds are uncomfortable for him.  Also, the "balconies" off the bedrooms are not even two feet in depth; one certainly can't sit in a chair on it.  And condo living means that your fellow guests may sit in the courtyard and make noise and there is no one to complain to.  But my husband really liked all the space and the filtered water cooler in the dining room.  Kitchen with all the amenities and hair dryers in the bathrooms--yay!  About six blocks from awesome grocery store Chedraui and the Plaza Las Glorias, where most dive boats will pick you up.  Easy 20 minute walk to town.

We made at trip to Coz in early December. I had planned to write a detailed trip report, but haven't gotten around to it. I feel I owe it to David Hammer of Casa Martillo, and to all of you on the board who helped so much in my trip planning, to let you know about this great place to stay.

We are divers, and spent most of our time there diving. Since we were IN the ocean so much of the time, we didn't feel the need to lodge on the beach. We just wanted a good comfortable place to stay that was conveniently located for our diving, and we found that and more!

It is brand new, tastefully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Everything was exactly as promised in the website, with the possible exception of walking distance to the beach - it was more like 5 or 6 blocks than 3. Hard to say exactly what a 'block' is though. (Still just a short walk though). The place is spacious and very modern, with card type door keys, electronic safe, and top of the line appliances. Hot water was a bit in short supply, but we didn't find it to be a real problem. We just spaced out our showers some, or used 'warmish' water. Kitchen is very well equipped. Full size refrigerator. There is filtered water in a bubbler in the kitchen. Free laundry room was a real plus, (the maid would often fold our laundry and bring it to us still warm if she beat us to it). And there was a very good place to wash out dive equipment and hang it to dry. The courtyard is charming and well tended. The pool is very small, but with only 6 units, the place will never be crowded. It is 4 feet deep, good for cooling off or volleyball.

It was a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to Plaza Las Glorias and the extremely useful Chedraui (walmart type) store. We were able to get up, fix a quick breakfast, and take the short walk to PLG where we met our dive boat. We got no hassle whatsoever from PLG about using their pool, bar, restaurant, dock, dive shop, bathrooms, whatever. In fact, they often gave us directions and looked up phone numbers for us at the desk.

The walk to the plaza was a pretty good trek, taking half an hour to 45 minutes. I found it a nice walk though, a good way to stretch our legs and work up a nice appetite for dinner. We usually walked to town for dinner, and then took a $2 - $4 cab ride back. Cabs don't generally go right by Casa Martillo, but there are plenty at the Chedraui and PLG, just up the street.
The local manager (Rosalita) is pleasant and very helpful. She speaks perfect english. She isn't there around the clock, but is just a phone call away. No phones in the units, but one is available for local calls. Long distance calls are best made from the Calling Station, or a Latadel phone anyway.

All in all, we found it to be a great place. Having visited Cozumel twice now, we probably won't go again soon (headed to Belize this summer!), but wanted to let Cozumel travelers know about this place. I had never seen it mentioned on the board before, probably because it is so new. Its not for the all-inclusive traveler, but for our needs it was perfect.

Best wishes and many thanks to all of you for your help in trip planning. I went down armed to the teeth with tips and suggestions from this board, and all my information was dead on. As relatively inexperienced Coz travelers, it gave us a great advantage.
