I took my two sons, 14 and 16 and the oldest son's girlfriend down on this
trip. We were there from 12/28-1/4. We arrived in the evening from
our flight from Mpls. First time I have ever arrived in the evening!
Wasn't sure what the temperture would be and was expecting that
wonderful feeling when the door of the plane was opened and you walk into the
warm, humid air. Not this time, we were hit with a nice cool breeze. Our
representive from Cozumel Vacation Villas, Javier was there to greet us.
I will say that they are one of the best groups I have ever rented from,
the service was exceptional! Javier met us and the cab at Casa Las
Palmas. It was a beautiful, 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. It was
surround by a tall white wall, you walked through the gates into a beautiful
yard with a big pool right outside the front door. It would be a great
house for divers, inside the house off from the living room was a nice rinse
tank and shower and plenty of wall hooks to hang your gear! The bedrooms
were very nice, of course I had the master suite with my own bathroom. Both
bathrooms had a very large shower. Mine had a shelf for my suitcase and
closet to hang my clothes. I had a kingsize bed, on cement but it was a
box spring and mattress on cement. I was very comfortable. The
kids loved my bed, in fact the last night they asked if we could just all
sleep together! NOT!
We immediately dropped off the luggage and headed right back out the
door to take a walk down to the square to meet my other friend Javier. Got
the kids something quick to eat and found my friend. Sat and had some beers
with him and then we walked the kids back. The two of us then turned back
around to find another friend and went to Las Tortuga for some great seafood.
Great restaurant, ended up eating there twice. Another night we at
a restaurant, Mexican food, I think it is called Padillas( think I am way off
on this name but cannot remember!) it is on 10th right down from Las
Naviagate(sp?) This is not a place I would recommend, we were not that
impressed with it. I did make a request of a strolling musician to sing
the Cozumel song. My friend Steve from the board asked that I have
someone sing it for me. If anyone knows the words to this song, please
let me know. Steve wants the words to the song really bad!!! My
friend Javier also took us to lunch at Las Pamitas. This was wonderful.
The kids declared this one of their favorite eating place, next to Los
Serras for Tacos El Pastor and bean soup! Of course we went there as
well! They had a wonderful soup, had macoroni with a tomato base and chicken
livers and hearts! Yes, I love it!! What can I say, grew up on chicken
livers!
We did the beach thing. THis trip was a cold one but the water
was still wonderful. We got hit with rain a few times and one night a
really hard downpour that last for a few hours. Left all the streets
flooded. Playa Bonita was beautiful and the beach is there! Just like
Ron's famous picture! They did a great job fixing the place up. Stopped
briefly at Punta Moreno to say hi to Sandra that owns the place. My
friend Javier had worked there for years but just quit, still had to give
Sandra a hug. She has built herself a new bar, looks nice. This
was our place to eat seafood but her good cook went down to Coconuts and the
last time we were there it just wasn't the same! Went down by Chen Rio
one day and watched all the surfers. They were surfing by some pretty
rocky shores but they all seemed to know what they were doing. I love
watching people surf!
New Years Eve was a blast! I am not the biggest fan of
Carlos and Charlies but the kids love the place. We are in agreement
that the old one has so much more character, sure miss the death stairs!
The kids danced all night long. The kids made friends with a solo
18 year old from CT. His parent told him to be back to hotel by 10:30
but we helped him into a cab home at about 1am. We think he had about 10
shots before the night was over! Thank god we met him or he may have been
sleeping on the waterfront or who knows where!
I usually go down in Feb, March or April, so this cool weather was a
shock for me. Our last day was going to be our big snorkeling day but it
was cool and a strong north wind blew through town. The kids dragged me
down to the square for a day of shopping instead. Not my idea of fun but
this is there trip. Came home with $200 pesos to remaining and some
change to call for my pick up from the Minneapolis airport. It was a
wonderful trip! Again, Cozumel Vacation Villas were the best. They
also delivered my car the morning after our arrival and let me drop it at the
airport. They took care of all the paper work at the house, it was
wonderful!
Get me talking about my favorite subject and I can't stop! Hoping
to be back, without the children, this spring. I cannot wait!!! Again,
thanks everyone on the board for their help. Trudy, I still did not to
the snorkel tour, maybe my next trip!
