It's like a Howard Johnson's.  Clean hotel, across from the water with bridge over the street.  I think it is only 4 stories, and the rooms are adequate and cool.  Many divers like the first floor because rooms have a sliding door that opens to the pool area.  It's easy because you don't have to haul your dive gear up the stairs.  Nice tropical landscape.  Have fun! D :)

Nothing fancy, but it's clean and the staff is friendly.  We've always enjoyed staying there.  I didn't care much for the restaurant.  If your breakfast is included in the price, it's good, otherwise, walk across the street to Ernesto's for breakfast/lunch.

Casa del Mar ..GO FOR IT JUDY , BEEN THERE 6 Times, it is a GREAT deal for the money..# 1 thing for us is it is CLEAN..Beautiful grounds, great place for sunsets and cruise ship watching, staff VERY friendly..only a few downfalls in 6 years...cold shower one year, and food not too  great last few yrs. this is NO PROBLEMO, eat downtown anyway!! Best pina coladas on the island, so go for A DEAL!! ( WE disagree with Steve)

Motel 6 would be nice,  but this place doesn't come close, you get what you pay for, no hot showers, what beds, very old rooms,. beds,. no beach at all. for $600 you could stay at much nicer spot, but lots of loud speakers and young partiers!! it is close to town!!

Comments: We did not stay at the hotel this trip but when there to eat dinner one night since we were meeting someone there to pick up a video.  We ordered dinner and it was okay, nothing special but not bad, and when  the bill came they had added $15 surcharge since we were not staying at the hotel and not on a cruise ship.  We questioned the charge and the waiter got all defensive but would not budge on it.  So our $35 dinner cost us $50.  Needless to say, no tip.  We think the waiter was pocketing the money anyhow so he screwed us out of the $15.  We will never eat there again and we will never stay at this hotel again.  What a racket they have going!!

We stayed there for our honeymoon last year.  The hotel was nice and clean. Hotel staff was very pleasant.   The food was good, however we enjoyed eating at all the other great places.  They are seveal blocks from the main square about a $4.00 cab ride one way for 2.  From the hotel you had to walk across the road or bridge walkway to get to the ocean. We enjoyed our stay there hope you do to.

My wife and I stayed at CDM in July of 2000 and 2001. Our first stay was great. We stayed in the cabanas on the upper level. Our last stay, in July of last year, is one that we'd like to forget. My wife left her jewelry in the room when we left to go diving on our first day there. When we returned to the room after our boat dropped us at the dock, her engagement ring was missing. When we reported it to the front desk, they all but came straight out and accused us of trying to commit insurance fraud. Needless to say, this treatment ruined our vacation, and we will not be staying there ever again.
To be informative though, I'd say the location is great, the food is overpriced and average at best, the shower was NEVER hot. The staff, for the most part (discounting the security staff) was friendly and helpful.

Just got back from Cozumel and stayed at Casa Del Mar and dove with Dive with Martin.
Casa Del Mar was clean, the staff was friendly and it is close to a couple of good dive shops.
They have a nice pool and grounds and it's a pretty basic 'Dive' hotel and the price is good.

Next time in Cozumel I would probably stay at Plaza Las Glorias. It's closer to town so you
can walk to a lot more places to eat instead of taking a taxi & the pool area is really nice.
It's a little nicer and a little more expensive then Casa Del Mar but not having to take a taxi to town and having a little variety close by as far as places to eat may be worth the added money.

We've stayed there about seven times now.  I like the hotel.  It is small, clean, and best of all - very reasonable.  I have better things to spend my money on.  The grounds are beautiful.  The pool is small, but the ocean is right across the street, via a bridge.  The staff is friendly.  I don't think you will have any problems or regrets!

You will enjoy your stay, the staff is friendly and the grounds are nice. You can use the facilities at their sister hotel across the street called Le Cebia. We enjoyed our stay with them at CDM. Have fun, and remember fins up.

Nice reasonably priced hotel.  You won't be sorry you chose it.  Our room had no view whatsoever...well the parking lot and tennis court.  But it mattered not at all.  I just didn't bother to look out the window.  We walked out the door and there was paradise.  Works for me.

Ernesto's Fajita Factory is just a couple of doors down.  Only had breakfast there, but others have said the food is good.  I found the hotel restaurant had decent food, but I could eat elsewhere more cheaply.

There's a small party store right next to the hotel front.  I bought a coke there and it was much cheaper than buying one from the bar.  

La Ceiba has a nicer beach, but Casa del Mar's is okay.  You can use either hotel's facilities as they are sister hotels.

Trip for two to town will run about $2.50 US.  Casa Denis has some good, moderately priced food.  I ordered a large pepperoni pizza from Nino's and it was about $6.00 delivered.  Good pizza, but not fantastic.

Just heard about El Turix.  It's a Yucatecan restaurant with good prices and tasty food.  It's not that far from you so the cab trip should be around $2-3.  I intend to try it when I go in December.

If you enjoy pastries for breakfast, there are several good bakeries in town.  I like the one by Nino's, but I'll be darned if I can remember the cross street.  It's on 10th (running north and south).  I can't remember which are calles and which are avenidas!  I guess I'm due for a trip back when I forget the basics.

Casa del Mar is fine. Its not a fancy resort - but certainly adequate. I'm not sure how I would classify it - better than Super 8 but more like an old Comfort Inn that has been cleaned up, painted, etc. As far as ocean views - there may be some rooms with a view, but the view would mostly be of the gardens, which are very lovely! They do a great job keeping the grounds up! I'll try to post photos when I get a chance. We were happy with CDM and will stay there again. The rooms are clean and are a nice size. I recommend you pay the extra for a gardenview - we will next time.  The gardenview had a patio which would have given space for us to spread out.  We had a king room and we didn't get in one another's way, but a patio would have been nice. There was also a small table with two chairs, an entertainment center with two shallow drawers and a storage area in the bottom. I ended up putting my clothes on the shelves in the closet. There were four on one end of the closet that were just right for storing folded clothes and extra pairs of shoes. The bathroom had a large tile shower (approx: 32" wide x 52" long) but only a sink counter (approx: 24" deep x 48" long) for your toiletries, ice bucket, etc. The only negatives I have about CDM are: if they would spend a few dollars to replace the curtain and bedspread it would make a difference....and there was a funny smell that I thought was something blooming, but turned out to be the paint fumes from the rooms next to us. We could only smell it when we were coming and going to our room and after the second day we saw them painting and figured out that was the smell. (Their paint doesn't smell like ours! Must be the lead! Oooh!) Anyhoo....the smell was gone by the third day and all was well. May they are changing the curtains and bedspreads as they paint....

The beach front was nice for lounging and snorkeling. We carried a cooler as La Boyas Snack Bar wanted $3.00 per beer....we chose our 31-cent Sol or 52-cent Carta Blanca we picked up at the Chadraui instead.

We have stayed at the Casa Del Mar. It is a smaller hotel. The beach is across the street. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it is very reasonable priced. Ernesto's is right next door for great breakfast deals. It is south of town about 2-3 miles, so it can be walked, but a cab ride is only a couple of dollars. I notice while doing some research there is a Days Inn right in town. They had very reasonable prices, however, there is no beach access if that is what you are looking for. There are also many large private homes/villas you can rent, if you want to put everyone together. Personally, I wouldn't want everyone in the same house with me. Good luck to you.

The casa del mar is basic but nice open and clean, the pool is the same, basic but nice
the pool in the la ceiba is very nice indeed, the beach I like a lot, good entry to go diving, and a real sandy part going into the water. You dont have to feel as sneeking in, because both places are owned by the same people.

So if you go in a group of party buddies, and do 3 dives a day than the barracuda could be fun. I want at least SOME relaxation though, than the casa del mar is much nicer.

Dive ops will pick you up from either place, so no problem there.

We stayed 2x at CDM. It is a very plain, simple hotel which a lot of divers use. We called it the Motel 6 of Cozumel. The pool is just a large rectangle with chairs sitting around the deck. Not much when compared to some of the resort type hotels, but then not the price either. I understand that you can use LaCeiba's beach which we've done but we thought we were sneaking in. If you've been to the island - know what you want to do and where you want to go - it is a great place have a decent room. If you need to be entertained and "pampered" better try another.

I just returned from Cozumel and had a blast! We stayed at the Casa Del Mar (we wanted to spend more on stuff to do, see and eat & less on hotel) and we loved it! When we return to Coz in 6 months, we will stay there again. Our room view was awesome (#333) - although there is no elevator. We didn't care & we lugged our scuba stuff up every day & night -- we were just glad to be there. I'll be posting a trip report next Thursday if you want to catch the details.
