Stayed there in July.  Loved it. It's downtown above the rug shop.  Very clean, new hotel.

Comments: I have now stayed at this downtown hotel 3 times. It has a great location, on the water in town. It is an easy walk to everything. The rooms are comfortable.  The beds are softer than most most hotel beds on Cozumel.  Each room has a mini refrigerator, and a safe (no charge for the safe).  The staff is excellent and takes very good care of the property. I recommend the waterfront rooms.  A very good full buffet breakfast comes with the room.  Because it is in town, it does not have a beach.  There is a very, very small pool and a terrace that overlooks the water.  I think the trade off of a central location is worth not having the beach at the hotel.  We just went to one of the beach clubs when we wanted to go to the water.

Comments: I can't say enough good things about this new hotel in Cozumel in the most perfect location.  Right by the AquaSafari Dive shop, Jeannie's Waffles, and the new Plaza with Carlos and Charlies,  Senor Frogs and lots of nice upscale shops. You could walk to the shoppes in the Plazas, to many nice restaurants, and to the ferry over to Playa del Carmen. The staff is AMAZING--so courteous and helpful.  The hotel itself was spotless and the rooms were very very nice.  Even had a small refrigerator in the room and a hair dryer in the bathroom.  Also, a nice work table with free internet hook-up service.
The best thing was their complementary breakfast:  fresh fruit, cereals, many yummy pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, and the best buffet:  refried beans,  bacon, sausage, and made to order eggs! !  You could create your own omelette and they would cook it for you and bring it to your table.
When you arrive,  you go up the escalator to the second level where the check-in counter and lobby with  cozy conversation areas, a small bar and the swimming pool (small but refreshing) and VERY nice lounge chairs which faced the ocean.  We could watch the cruise ships coming and going and the people below us.
And the rates were VERY reasonable !!  It's in a perfect location.  You will love it here.  If you have any questions,  I would be happy to answer them for you.

Re: pool

It's deeper than you think but don't dive in it.  Standing, the water will come up to your shoulders or chest.  It's small though.  You may be referring to the fountain in the lobby which is about 6" deep.  BTW, we stayed at Casa M a year or so ago after they had been opened a short time and loved it.  The staff is exceptional.  The rooms are very clean.  Best place to stay downtown.  The escalator is a welcome sight after a day of hoofin' it around town.

I haven't stayed there, but also have toured the place. Great location, tastefully decorated rooms, balcony, small pool on the mezzanine that overlooks the street and very clean. I believe breakfast is also included and they even make you omelettes to order. The staff seemed quite friendly and knowledgeable. And yes, they now have small fridges in the rooms.

Stayed at Casa Mexicana Apr 2 - 9.  We loved it.  Very clean, helpful staff.  The desk clerk even made restaurant reservations for me and confirmed my flight home.  The breakfast buffet was great; we had everything from pastries to huevos rancheros, and it was all very good.  We never ate breakfast anywhere else.  We paid $20/night more for a roomy oceanfront room with a king bed on the 4th floor.  We had a great water view with a nice balcony, and lots of privacy.  I liked opening my eyes to all that beautiful blue water first thing in the morning.  (Hint: The rooms with balconies overlooking the courtyard have a nice garden view but offer no privacy unless you keep the curtains closed all the time.)  AC was very quiet.  The rooms came with a TV with lots of channels, lots of sundries so you don't need to bring shampoo, razor, etc... and bottled water which was replenished every day.  The downtown location was great--it was a short and pleasant walk to the plaza.  Even though we were on the streetside, we did not have any problem with noise at night.  We even slept with the patio doors open when it was cool enough.  It was very convenient to the Aqua Safari dive shop in the building next door, and their dock across the street.  There is a great view from the small pool on the second floor.  The small bar was convenient for getting cocktails for sunset.  The living room style lobby was very nice and comfortable.  The escalator and small elevator were appreciated.  There is a free room safe (unless you lose the key).  Here are my only complaints:  The bed was hard but we slept good anyway after all the diving.  I wake up early and like coffee early in the morning but it's not available in the hotel until the buffet opens at 7:00.  I had to get it a Jeanie's Waffles which is in the building next door - they open at 6:00.  But it was quick and easy to get it there - and it was good.  CM still doesn't have fridges in the room, but we didn't need one.  They have ice machines on the 2nd and 4th floors, but we didn't use them.  I would definitely stay with Casa Mexicana again, especially if diving with Aqua Safari.

Just returned from 7 days at the Casa Mexicana and it has to be the cleanest hotel that I have ever stayed at. Staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a new hotel and they do not have their exercise room up and running yet and they do not have their own restaurant or bar, but they do have a breakfast buffet that is open from 7 to 10 am that is wonderful. The pool is small only 3 feet deep but the view is beautiful. the hotel is right in town and you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. They are across from a pier that Aqua Safari runs dive and snorkeling trips from. We did not use that company so I cannot comment on them.  The hotel is right across the street from the ocean and the locals swim and enjoy themselves there every day. There is no white sand beach. I would stay there again when we return, mainly because of the staff and the location and how clean it is. I'm sure in the future when they are  finished with plans for the hotel it will be booked solid. One last thing don't forget to bring an alarm clock.

I stayed at Casa Mexicana over Easter with a large group.  We were all impressed with the hotel.  The rooms, service, breakfast buffet, location.....it was all wonderful.  AND...it was certainly nice to walk only a block and a half to the pier with my dive gear.  I'm going back Monday and I'm looking forward to staying there again.

What a place!!  First Class all the way.  Everything you need in your room.  Outstanding maid service, front desk, and bellboys.  Our 1st trip and it was wonderful.  Location is fantastic, close to shopping, diving pier, and you can snorkel right in front of the hotel if you don't go to far (boats coming in won't watch for you).  Air conditioning in rooms, big TV, small swimming pool 2nd floor.  Great view from balcony to see downtown.  Escalator and elevators for tired travellers.  Spotless hotel, brand new.   Smoke, Cathy, & Randi   Hydro, OK

The hotel is brand new.... not a remodel or refurbished property....

It is located on the waterfront in downtown.
you can walk to all shops and bars.
dive pickup right across the street.
small 5ft pool on patio overlooking ocean
complimentary breakfast daily
Rooms small but comfortable with large 25 inch color TV in Room.
Staff is very friendly.

now the downside.....
because it is on the main street downtown there is no beach but you can go to any beach on the island.
they are such a new hotel that when I was there last week they were just putting in the escalators from the street level to the lobby level and the elevators were not running.
I would also think that this would not be a good property for families with small children as there is no room to roam ( just the lobby and patio area) you are right on the main street.

the last thing I have to say about the property is that it will be a great new option of the diver that does not need the AI option or a pool and beach. It is part of the group that owns the Bahia and the Suites Colonial so if you are familiar with these properties you will be pleased with the Casa Mexicana.....

This brand new top star downtown hotel is right across the street from two dive docks. No more taxi expense to go diving or $$ to go to/from downtown. The folks at Casa Mexicana are all very nice and accommodative. The place is brand new and spotless. We had a top floor oceanfront room having a king size bed and balcony. very, very nice is all I can say. Free buffet every morning and I designed by own omelette four mornings in a row. This is going to be the in place downtown to stay at I guarantee it. Adventure Tours is offering 4 nights, transfers, air from DFW, free buffet breakfast now for $300. This is a total bargain. Next year I will definitely go back there. Why stay away from downtown anyway? Sincerely, Randy
