In April and it was nice, but a little dark because there is just one window that has plants in front of it.  We did not hear any roosters.  I would check out Jasmin.  If I remember correctly that one was next to Alcatraz and did not face the back.

Posted by Cheesehead on 07/24/03

stayed there in May

Rooms in back suffer from the barn yard noise(roosters @ 5 am).  The place is clean and nice.

Mixed bag, but for the cost not a bad deal.  We've decided to try the Casa Mexicana next trip.

Comments: We stayed at hacienda San Miguel with our 4 year old daughter and loved it. We were interested in the all-inclusives but couldn't afford 7 days there so spent 4 days at Hacienda and 3 days at El Cozumeleno. It was a great compromise. Excellent service and great rooms at HSM, close to best restaurants, markets, etc. Really, just great value for money, the room sizes are fabulous.

Comments: My husband, his dad and I just returned from our stay here.  I have to say by far this hotel has the best service I found on the island.  Angela, Nicole, & Perla were great.  They new where to go and what the best places to eat were always.  The rooms were clean with excellant maid service daily.  The courtyard to the hotel had beautiful gardens with plenty of shade.  We were within walking distance to the main square and a block from the ocean.  You could not ask for a better place to stay.  Make sure to take in tea time when you are there the pastries are heavenly!!  The morning juice coffee and pastries were also very good.

Comments: Perfect! This was the place I was searching for.  Beautiful gardens, simple yet stylish rooms, very clean, attractive and quiet.  Did I mention the beautiful gardens...and be sure to have your picture taken by the lovely fountain.  A truly Wonderful Staff.  Half a block to the water...close to everything!  Did I mention that it was perfect? I could echo all the wonderful reviews on the site for the HSM. Instead let me simply say this.  The best place at the best price.  You will not want to leave! But please avoid the spring and late fall months...as I will be staying at the HSM! Again..and Again!  ps...tell Angela "Hi" for us...and ask her all your diving questions...she knows the inside scoop!

It's the coolest place to stay on the island. I only wish I could go this year. The girls are great and very helpful with anything you might need.

I stayed at Hacienda San Miguel (HSM) for the third time since Nov 2000 during the week of 22-29 July 2001.  Initially I was in La Rosa.  It is a two-story unit with bedroom, TV and full bath upstairs and bunkbed, kitchen, dining room and half-bath downstairs.  Rooms are airconditioned.

Several days I stayed in Alhalia (spelling?) which is another large unit near the entrance.  (The change of rooms was to accommodate a request I had)

HSM is supposedly a hotel but it feels more like home than any other place I have stayed in Cozumel.  I like being able to grab a cold coke out of the fridge...pouring it into a large glass full of ice.  Then relax in bed and read or watch a little TV before going to bed.

Floor is tile typical of places in Cozumel so wet dive gear is no problem.  Both units had balconies.  Shampoo, rinse and hand lotion is provided so eventually I will remember that and not bring my own.

In the morning, you can have coffee, orange juice and nice breads/pastries brought to you for breakfast.  I prefer to make my own breakfast to start the day.  Normal kitchen items are there.

If you go to their website at www.haciendasanmiguel.com  you will see the water thing in the entrance.  The middle area is well landscaped and a pleasure to walk though.

HSM has become my first choice for my trips to Cozumel for several reasons:
1)  Excellent value for a reasonable price
2)  Kitchen facilities for my cold classic cokes and breakfast.
3)  Good location within walking distance of the downtown area
4)  Quiet
5)  Excellent staff

No doubt I am missing other reasons to stay there.  But I will mention one factor that made my recent trip a great one.  Angela was able to set up a special dive trip that is usually hard to arrange with some dive shops...especially if you are not a regular.  She joined us on that trip and another that we started from Allegro, where we were doing lots of neat stuff.

As a single traveller, sometimes doing things is not as much fun alone.  Angela joined me on a few occasions and her company was very welcome.  She is a great diver and a fun person to spend time with.

Do I recommend HSM?  That depends.  If you must have a pool and beach right outside your door, it is not the place for you.  If you want quality lodging at a good price so you can spend your money on diving, rental car, etc, then it is worth considering.  However, it is not a place you should stay when I want to go to Cozumel.  Try another hotel in that case    :)

We would highly recommend the Hacienda San Miguel, ditto all the previous reviews.  Beautiful gardens, we enjoyed taking our morning coffee and pastries (comes with the room) in the garden ,very quiet (bring mosquitoe spray!).  The rooms were spacious, we shared the room with our 15 year old son (no easy feat) and there was plenty of room.  Staff friendly, helpful advice.  The kitchen saved us some money - there is a small store only 2 blocks away.  A short 4 block walk downtown.  All in all the best place we have stayed in 20 years of visiting Cozumel.  Enjoy!

Deb & I picked the Hacienda San Meguel from the many great reports we saw on Travel notes, http://www.travelnotes.cc/cozumel/links/lodgingreviews/hotels.html , and the great help we got over the net from the staff there. We have been to Cozumel four times over the past five years and this was our first time to stay, what one would say, in town. This by far has been our best trip ever, that is to date. The rooms, or should I say Suites, are very nice, large and very clean. The grounds are kept spotless and the staff is at your beckon call.

We liked the idea that we could walk to the town square, only 4 blks. Some of the best restaurants are only 3 to 6 blks away, and if one doesn’t have a car, you’re only a short cab ride away from some great beaches. With the money we saved, we were able to rent a car for the week and have the freedom of the whole island, which was just great.

Will we go back to the Hacienda? You bet, we have already made reservations for next February and hopefully we’ll be able to stay for two weeks.

Ya got to love Cozumel, and the Hacienda makes you love it even more.

We stayed two weeks inthe Alcatraz room - a garden room with 2 dbl beds - I loved that it had these huge windows you could open up and let the breeze through but you were hidden behind plants so still had privacy. Yes to safes - really large showers - no bathtubs, no coffeemaker but they bring you a carafe of coffee and sweet rolls every morning. Great safe in the closet no blender but you have your own fridge so you can make as much ice as you want. Lots of towels - great colour tv with remote - with mostly spanish some english stations. Not a bad room in the place - so far have not heard of anyone that did not like it!

I stayed there with my husband and loved it!  It's very quaint and the staff is wonderful.  And it's very reasonably priced.  Your daughter will love it because it's near town so she can walk to shopping and it's right near the water.  Check out their website - www.haciendasanmiguel.com

Hotel:  This was a highlight of this trip.  I have stayed at three other facilities on previous trips but wanted something different.  I considered a bed and breakfast but learned about Hacienda San Miguel from a Cozumel discussion board (http://www.travelnotes.cc/cozumel/cgi-local/index.cgi).
It is an excellent facility of studios and suites, all with kitchenettes. That is what sold me on it at first.  After staying there a week, the intimate setting, convenience to downtown, great staff and excellent value, it is now my first choice for my next trip to Cozumel.

I chose the small studio since I was there alone.  Upon arrival, I met Rori to check in.  She is from Venezuala and is a lovely woman.  She showed me to my room where I unpacked and changed to find a dive shop for a dive that day.  Opening the dresser I saw a TV which I had not expected.  Scrolling through the channels I found CNN.  Great!  Now I can watch election results.  I think Rori is single.  Did I mention that she is lovely?

I noticed a large container of purified water.  Another unexpected pleasure since I usually buy several gallons of water on every trip.  Putting stuff into the bathroom I noticed small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and hand lotion.  Another unexpected nicety.

After going into town (less than a ten-minute walk to the square), I had arranged a night dive with Blue Bubble.  Upon my return, they had placed a nice white robe on the bed.  I don't expect this kind of service so I am impressed.

The kitchenette has plates, utensils and pots/pans.  It is not as equipped as my personal kitchen but fine for the simple meals I wanted to cook (breakfast and occasional lunch).  I did reveal my "incompetence" by asking about the stove.  It was clearly gas but did not ignite automatically.
Turns out you have to light it manually.  Duh!   I wonder if most Venezualan women are as lovely as Rori?

When I returned from town, I met the lovely Stephanie who showed me the variety of suites available.  This is from memory so refer to the HSM website for specifics on rooms and prices.  In addition to the one bedroom I used, they have rooms with two queen size beds and one townhouse with two separate rooms, each with two queen size beds and bathroom.  These are upstairs with the kitchen and dining room downstairs.  And the low season price is only $70 USD a night.

Hacienda San Miguel has a website that shows details on the rooms, prices and contact info at http://www.haciendasanmiguel.com/

Did I mention the lovely, gracious and very helpful women at HSM?  Nicole is the third woman there.  All three were very helpful if I needed anything.

Check out Hacienda San Miguel at www.haciendasanmiguel.com.

Look at the suites and descriptions.  I stayed in the 2 bedroom townhouse which sounds perfect for you and your husband and your two sons.  It is located close to the restaurants and the nightlife.  But also offers peace and quite on a quite street.  They also have an affiliated beach club that you can get discounts at.  And you will be impressed by the rates!

There are several reviews HSM on Travel Notes and the HSM website.  Check them out.

We just returned from Cozumel and we found a real treasure at the Hacienda San Miguel. The Hacienda is small with only 11 units and lots of individual attention. Every morning we were treated to breakfast delivered to our room at our the time of our request. It was quiet and peaceful and yet close to downtown. It was recommended by our dive master, Cristina Roman. She has lived on the island and knows all the best places to stay and all the best restaurants. If you are looking for a great dive master and instructor check out her website. http://www.nti.se/Patrick/cdec

I stayed there last march and loved it! The staff was wonderful and the accomodations great! The pictures are pretty accurate! We really liked the fact that it was walking distance to all of the downtown activity, but it's really on the end of the "downtown" strip, so it was quiet. We missed having a pool, but Playa Azul really makes up for that! We loved the guacamole and ceviche there and made great friends with the wait staff! Nicole (at the hotel) is fluent in spanish, english, and german and can help with anything! You'll have a great time! If you have any other questions, shoot me an e-mail!

I stayed there a few months back. Very nice and very Mexican with kitchenette, beautiful gardens, a block from the main street/ocean boardwalk.

Run by very nice people, nice beach club at Playa Azul--about 6 blocks from the town square.

Maybe you want to give the Hacienda San Miguel a try (they have a link on this site, that's how I found them, and their website is www.gotocozumel.com I think), it really is quaint, with the courtyard,conti-breakfast served to the room, and just about half a block from the mainboulevard- about 10 minutes walking distance from the main plaza.... I paid around US$56 per night and didn't spend much on food since I had the kitchenette in the room

I just got back from a week at the Hacienda! It is just as beautiful as it appears on the web-site and brochure! It is very small and close everything. The only thing we missed was a pool, but the beach club (Playa Azul) really made up for it. The staff is wonderful - they put up with all of our pestering and questions! We enjoyed the beautiful garden and the fountain. It was wonderful. If you are looking for a quiet place with-in walking distance to the plaza, this is it!

How about staying at the Hacienda San Miguel... I stayed there recently and they are really nice.  The rooms are really suites with full kitchen-stove, oven, refrigerator, breakfast nook and depending on the size also an extra table and chairs for former meals.  They are air-conditioned, with TV, and of course hot and cold water... and the rooms are really big considering the usual size of the hotel rooms-about the size of a studio at the Paradisus (they got us to take a tour of the place, too... by some guy who talked us into it downtown)..

Best thing is the different sizes - studios for couples or small families, even a two bedroom apartment for large families (sleeps min. 4 persons) and the rates (i paid US$50 per night for 2 persons and could eat small breakfast and dinner or sandwiches in my room without having to go to a restaurant all the time.)... Their website is www.gotocozumel.com

Check them out... I'll be going back soon

It's gorgeous...

Hola Sandra:

On our last trip to Cozumel in August '99, we happened to stroll by The Hacienda San Miguel and just had to stop in because it's so gorgeous!  We asked for a tour and were shown two of the ground-floor rooms.  They were each unique with a slightly different floorplan and different furnishings and artwork.  Each patio had a different assortment of tables and chairs, lounges, etc. The rooms were something out of the pages of a Mexican Architectural Digest.

Exquisite...Mexican artwork, carved wooden headboards and armoires, talavera (world-famous Mexican pottery) sinks and lamps, tile floors and full kitchens with full-size refrigerator, range, sink on bar, cute barstools, etc.  The grounds are beautifully done with lush tropical plants and flowers.

We have not stayed there, but assume it would be quiet and know it would be utterly charming. It's close to the waterfront and also close to everything in downtown San Miguel.

You're so lucky to be staying there.  It's a real gem of a place!!

I'd love to hear how you like it.

The Hacienda is a GREAT CHOICE!  Very personalized!

Hi!  My Mom and Grandma stayed at the haciendas and they loved it!  They loved the location (close to all the great shopping) and each room has a kitchenette.  They loved the decoration because it was quaint with mexican carved furniture.  I live here on the island and I had them stay there to be closer to me.  My favorite was the garden, especially at night.  We sat out on the terrace and had wine by the sound of the fountain.  They got to know their neighbors, etc.  I definitely recommend it if you are looking to stay out of the resort seen with all the loud music and crouds, and are looking for a quiet and clean atmosphere.  And the shops and restaurnats are all walking distance, or you can just cook a nice dinner for yourself.

Again, good choice!
