Comments: I thought Chen Rio was very good!!! we had a fish platter and it was amazingly good!! I really recommend it, the food, and location was great, although its far away from town, the beach was also beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments: stopped here due to tourist books. won't do it again.

Comments: We had the seafood platter at Chen Rio. Not only was it expensive ($40) but we both got sick later that night from the food! We spent the entire next day sick in bed and missed our dive. There are too many flies as well. They have a beautiful beach that you can swim at, so stop by for a beer and then move on.

Chen Rio is way over-priced for average tasting food. We rented scooters one day
to tour the island and decided to try Chen Rio for lunch. The owner/waiter
was very pushy with the "I'm your best friend, I'll take care of you"
line. We asked how much for the seafood platter for two people and he told
us, "For you only $47 for 6 lobster tails, six prawns and fish." He
even agreed to include a few drinks in the price. When we only got 5
lobster tails and prawns he said, "Oh, it's 500 grams so sometimes 5,
sometimes 6". (As if he has a scale weighing these as they come off his
boat!) The food tasted fine, but not great, and definitely not "the
best in Cozumel" as some guidebooks will tell you. When the bill came, he
charged us for the drinks afterall. (The $3 glass of wine was about 4 sips
worth.) Then we overheard him telling the couple at a differnent table,
"For you only $52...." Chen Rio is a complete scam for mediocre food.
Avoid Chen Rio and try one of the other choices on the East side of the island. Posted by dijo on February 4, 2000 It's wild, it's wonderful. You just have to be careful especially if you want to go swimming. We packed a lunch, stopped at Chen Rio: make sure you know exactly what you are paying before you order. We just had a beer each, and then continued on. It is a great experience because it is so different from the other side of the island. Lots of nice little secluded little beaches if you can just can find a place fo pull off the road. Be careful, but enjoy!! Posted by Chris on 01/27/00 But definitely, Chen Rio was top notch (if you can go to the other side of the island). Posted by SB on December 14, 1999 I agree that the seafood is good, but it sure isn't cheap (by Coz standards). Me and my friend had the whole fried snapper, shrimp, 1 margarita and 1 cerveza, and the bill was $30. That's not much less than a much better meal at Prima's and I don't have to eat with one hand and swat flies with the other at Prima's. Posted by Dijo on December 14, 1999 Just at Chen Rio last Sunday. The water was very rough, lots of Mexican families out enjoying the day. Waiter very pushy. As soon as he realized we only wanted a cerveza pushed us off on an older man that was good to us. The flies were horrendous and there was no way we would eat there. Washroom was passable by Mexican standards. Back to Restaurant Reviews "Say you saw it on TravelNotes.cc!"
