Comments: We return to this favorite every year. It ranks in our top three choices. My husband always orders the Yucatan Chicken and I like the grilled shrimp. The couple travelling with us enjoyed the garlic shrimp.

Comments: The neighborhood looks sketchy, but the food is great.  The grilled seafood platter for two or more serves twice the number, and the veracruz fish is to die for.

Comments: El Moro is a restaurant we return to each of the 9 years we have been vacationing in Cozumel.  My standard meal is the garlic shrimp always preceded by a bowl of lime soup(Azteca, tortilla).  My husband tried a new dish each time and has never been disappointed sticking to the seafood choices.

I have been going to Cozumel for about ten years, and I'm not sure when the first time I ate at El Moro was. I do know that El Moro has remained my favorite place to eat since the first time I was there. This place is definitely not fancy, and the area of town it's located in can be a little intimidating, but it is worth it. The food and service are always excellent, the menu is so extensive that in all these years I have hardly made a dent in it. The prices are a little higher since more gringos have discovered it, but it is still a great deal. Kim S.

Review by Jack:

We loved El Moro! We ate there six times during our one-week stay! We were treated like family, especially by Rey. My teenagers loved the food. One of them had the beef fajitas five times and it was always enough to feed two people. The restaurant seemed very clean and the food was great, especially considering the reasonable cost. The drinks were very good, especially the
fruit juices. We highly recommend this restaurant. Another couple who stayed in our B&B felt the same way and ate there multiple times also.

Sorry folks, I wasn't impressed.  It took us awhile to find it and we were expecting great food and service.  Got neither.  Food was okay but nothing to rave about, our hotel restaurant was better, and cleaner. Ordered the Shrimp on a Wire, good but 140 pesos for only 6 shrimp and tons of vegies on a skewer.  Also order conch in garlic butter, bland, and beef tips mexicana, not anything great.  Tables and utensils weren't very clean and it was hot outside so we all stuck to the vinyl chairs.

Outstanding. Great out of the way real Mexican experience. Very inexpensive. Large menu. Very friendly and efficient wait staff.

Re: Who has the best Lobster meal on the island?

El Moro has the yummiest shrimp on the wire!  Comes with home-made fries, refried beans, rice!  Delectable!  My fiance had the chicken el moro, loved that.  Everything comes with tortilla chips with very hot pico de gallo(SP.) & very tasty fresh baked rolls.  Bill came to under $25 U.S. including 2 cokes, Sol & a bottle of water.  Wanted to go back that night, but still was too full.  Hard to find though.... Go to the new Pemex gas station, 75th street, go down one block, turn right, go sown one more block, turn left.  Walk until you see El Moro.  Well worth it.

My wife and I have been going to El Moro for 9 years now. Nothing has changed in all that time except for the better. Sometimes we can't finish the meal because of the size!! (Too much beer!) Over the years we keep running intot hte same people there so it's gotto be good! We now have a house in Cozumel but at least three times a week we go to El Moro. Who want's to cook at home! Jim and Eileen 8/2000.

This was the local's secret, then the gringos found this restaurant. Great Mayan style food and cheap prices. Hard to find the first time. Turn north by the new gas station, then take the first right, the the first left, located 1/2 block on left.

I'm not sure of the address, but the taxi driver knew where it was - of the beaten path a bit, back further into town, but worth every block!  Food was fantastic (shrimp on a wire - yum!), place was fun (seemed more like a favorite of divers than tourists), drinks were strong - what more could you ask for?
