Comments:This was a great Mexican restaurant! We went on Sunday night when the cruise ships were gone, so it was a great quiet, non-touristy
night. The drinks were tasty, and the food was delicious. We had chicken mole, grouper with different toppings and tortilla soup. Everything was good. :-)

We have been going to COZ for 11 years- Each year we return to La Choza - faithfully- can't beat anything you order that has there sweet mustard sauce on it and you can't miss anywhere with garlic shrimp. El Capi Navigante is always goos too. Manati is in your price range but the only time we were there, it smelled of incense which did nothing to enhance the food flavors and the fans weren't keeping up with the heat. But I would give it another chance as the mango chicken was good- the Sonora Grill's garlic shrimp is great. It is an upstairs restaurant and you can look down and see the street below-an insight into local life. Most restaurants have the menu outside with the prices. I have never been to Panchos in the 11 years I have beent here, but it has many good reviews and I want to go there this year for sure-have heard good things about relanos. Hope this helps.

Comments: This was our seventh trip to Cozumel and our first to La Choza.  It is now on the "must do every year" list.  Thanks to the previous posters on this site who steered us there.  I participate on a chat board called "chowhound."  I just have to tell them about the shrimp chiles rellenos and the garbanza soup.  Husband had pasta soup and shrimp in sweet mustard sauce.  He had beer, and I had iced tea.  Bill was $32 including tip.

Comments: My wife and I have been to Cozumel 3 times over the past 4 years.I have to say  that I fell in love with the whole island. We were lucky enough to here about La Choza's while we were there, once we went there and had our first meal,we went back atleast once a day to eat.The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed and the food was awsome. I recomend the fitas or the shrimp. Also if you are a salsa lover you have to try there sauce,we tried to take some back home we loved it so much.Just thinking about it makes me want to goand eat there. I love La Choza.

From: Elaine Duett

Was researching restaurants in Cozumel. Have been six or seven times, sometimes as a cruise port. We discovered La Choza some years ago when our local snorkling guide highly recommended it. It has never disappointed us. Our day, whatever we do, is always topped off with dinner at La Choza, followed by Carlos & Charlies to dance and have a few mexican beers. I thought we'd try a new restaurant when we pass through this summer, but after surfing the net and reading the restaurant reviews, I'm thinking we'll head back to La Choza. Why mess with a good thing?

Comments: Excellent Mexican/Seafood restaurant.  The Shrimp was great and the chicken mole was awesome.  The 4 people in our group each had a different entree and everyone thought theirs was the best.  There was one sauce that was served with the chips and meals that was out of this world.  It seemed to be a mustard base that was spicy but not too hot.  Top it all off, this place is very reasonably priced, and had great margis.  Strongly recommend, won't go wrong.

Comments: Good, solid Mexican food, reasonably priced.  Not an upscale restaurant, but a darn good one.  For a special evening out, I recommend La Veranda.  For just really good food and a place to hang out, you cannot do better.

Comments: This turned out to be our favourite restaurant in town, and when we decided to return to a restaurant for our last night, this was easily the restaurant of choice.  Although we hated to do it after enjoying their company while diving during the day, we relished the seafood: from "pretty fish" in the water to "delicious fish" on our plates.  The ambiance was chill (by which I mean, relaxed and attractive), the food was far and away the best (although I don't understand why they don't serve the simple chopped tomato, onion, pepper and cilantro salsa that everybody else serves: maybe they want to be different, but the guacamole and the cheese dip cannot be as good as a simple, fresh salsa).  Nevertheless, the soups are perfect and we quite loved the place.  I am astounded that a previous reviewer disliked the service (this was several years ago, so perhaps they've hired a new waiter or two): the waiters for both of our visits were charming, friendly and sincerely conce
rned about the apparent ill health of a member of our group (the result of too many margeritas and dos equis, nothing that wasn't much improved after the headache wore off the next day).  We loved this place and would definitely return for their grilled fish.  After reading the other reviews, though, I'm sorry I didn't try to the fajitas (no . . . I would have ordered the grilled fish again - it was that good).

Comments: Real Mexican food prepared and served by pros.  The whole grilled snapper, fish in mustard sauce, black chicken, and shrimp veracruz are all worth the visit.

La Choza has great grilled chicken and/or snapper fajitas

Comments: For authentic mexican food this is the place.  You get alot of very good food for a moderate price.  I especially liked the black bean soup and flank steak that was very tender.  If you are going to La Mission try this place instead, and we did try both.  La Choza is reasonable and with very good food.

Comments: As strange as it seems, the hardest thing for us to find is good Mexican food.  At La Choza I had the shrimp fajitas and I think they are the best anywhere.  The lime soup is great too.  My husband had the Chicken Mole which is awesome but even so he was jealous of my fajitas.  I also had the lime pie and he had ice cream.  Our dinner, desserts and drinks all came to just around $30US, including tip.

Definitely agree with La Choza, not only for seafood, but it was our favorite for Mexican also.  Best seafood we had was at Chen Rio on the east side, but be careful with the game the owner plays.  Summary is that you are the owner's best friend, he is giving you a great deal (there's no menu--you negotiate the price of the meal, but don't realize you are doing it), but the bill ends up more.  Back to your question including value, Chen Rio is comparable to many others costwise, outstanding food, but not inexpensive.  But, I was really surprised to see how expensive CZM had become.  Don't know how much that is because we were there New Year's week.  Cost was comparable to Houston, and it used to be half the cost of a meal in Houston (one of the least expensive cities, so it might be low if you are from someplace where eating out costs more).  La Choza was $10 or 12 for fajitas, typical of the price everywhere.  I'm not complaining about the prices, just trying to help you set expectations.  Everywhere we ate was great!

Great food - we had the shrimp fajitas and shrimp kebabs & both were excellent.  Good services and decent prices too.

Try "La Choza" in San Miguel. Mayan/Caribbean food.  Not cheap but good food, atmosphere and service.

La Choza restaurant: we ate there twice. great fajitas, good nachos, great tortilla chip sauce, good airy corner location. Prices fair. Service was slow however. One lunch took over 30 minutes to get our food.

La Choza - good restaurant, decent prices, good food, nice setting.  Sonora - also good but street noise was pretty overwhelming. Lobster dinner there was about $17. The restaurant at Chen Rio beach had great food & lots of it if you don't mind waving the flies off the whole meal.  Nice place to hang out a while.

The food is good but the waiters are rude and have the worst service

on the island.

La Choza. Really the best in Cozumel. I almost hate to add to the crowd there, but it's no secret. Fajitas of at least four kinds, lots of authentic and regional items on the menu. I've never had a bad meal there. The staff is quick and friendly, the location is great. Highly recommended.

Steven
