Las Palmeras

JUMP TO NEW REVEIWS

The Denny's of Cozumel.......Don't ya love the pictures of the food on the menus.  It is a great people watching spot though.

I really like their breakfasts. They have a dish called "Molettas" (sp?), which I'm sure those of you who live on the island have heard of, although I hadn't before I had it.  It is a bread like French bread covered with refried beans and smothered in cheese.  Wow!  It was awesome, but certainly not light.  Still a great change for breakfast.  Great people watching, too!

Moletta's/Tequila
I thought I was the only one who ate these.  How funny.  ROTFLMAO   I can taste them now.  Bill is ready for the Mango pie Tony and several top-shelf margarita's......19 days and counting....how much is a good bottle of tequila nowadays?........Christine

Comments: Cozumels answer to Denny's.  True the margaritas are strong, which appeals to the teenager in me, but they taste like cr*p.  If you want to just taste tequila, do a shot.

Comments: Will be doing our 5th year to Cozumel and one of our favorite places to eat is Las Palmeras. Last year we had my husband's birthday party there on Feb.14th.  Yes, there is an occasional "vendor" there and there are the guitar players;  well, that "is the island."  We find those things a part of the ambience of the island that make us return every year. We love to sit on the street side tables, watch the people, feel the carribean breezes and enjoy all the different people. The food is "OK" to good, but the personnell are wonderfully friendly and are there to please their customers.  There are many nice places to eat, but this is our favorite.

Comments: We went here for lunch one afternoon.  It was okay but annoying that they allow vendors to approach your table to try and sell you things right in the restaurant.  Because of that we won't go back there.   We both had lunch and drinks and the bill was about $40US, including tip.

Hola!  Have another review here...this one for Palmeras:

As it is right along the main road, and it is rather pretty, with all the wood and glass, my husband and I got sucked into the Palmeras trap.  The food was slightly lower quality than that I would expect to get here (Oklahoma).  I got shrimp and ribs.  The ribs were edible and the shrimp were insulting.  It was high priced, and nothing special, in our humble opinions.  You're even charged for refills on soft drinks.  If you are looking for uninteresting, Americanized food, you'll find it at Palmeras. If you're looking for a good place to have drinks and people watch...well, it is a nice spot for that.  There WAS a very cool old guy with a guitar singing songs.  I am glad to always have the memory of "The Cozumel Song":-)

However, not worth the price of the meal.

I Like Palmeras, across from the Ferry Pier! (+) And order a mega 'Rita along with it! The Huevos Rancheros are excellent (and grab the little curly pastry before anyone else does!).

Most excellent drinks--very large drinks--they give you chips and salsa--their chips and salsa are different from our Mexican chips/salsa served in America. Open are cafe, a dog kept walking in and out of the cafe--waiters kept stepping over him. Good place to people watch....I recommend it highly---SINGEN

I like Palmeras because of their wonderful (triple strong?) margaritas on the rocks. After one of those, I don't much care how the food is! For just food, I'll take Pancho's Backyard, but Palmeras has what I think is the best margarita south of San Antonio, TX.

żLas Palmeras? żEstas loco?

Overpriced tourist trap serving uninteresting, uninspired food. Don´t waste your time or dollars.

Posted by tat2chas on February 22, 2000

Si, estoy poco loco, soy buzo. Que dice?

Rushing to my own defense, I only ate there once, after walking by it about 100 times. Had the Palmeras Fish Fillet, actually thought it was rather tasty. Same $ as C&C's and better prepared.
