Beaches / Beach Clubs

Posted by Minigolf Sally on 12/03/03

Paradise Beach is located between San Francisco and Playa Sol. I think Christi meant to write that it opened about a month ago, not a week ago. Everything is brand new and of excellent quality. The lounge chairs are comfortable, umbrellas are plentiful. They have loads of free amenties: floating mats, sea kayaks, water trampoline, ice berg to climb. Very good food and drink at normal beach prices. The reggae band is there from 1-5pm. Restrooms are spotless! The beach itself is beautiful: white sand sloping gently into the sea. Paradise seems to have more depth to its beach than other places. I have been to all the beaches mentioned so far in this thread. Until more people find out about Paradise and it starts to get crowded, it gets my vote.

Re: New Paradise Beach Club

Paradise beach actually has a roped off swimming area and they have a staff to keep the sand "clean" in the swimming area...meaining they keep rocks and foreign objects cleared out. It just opened a little over a week ago.

They are all nice, why pick just one?

Re:playa azul has a very nice beach....>

and the food is good too.if you go there be sure the taxi driver understands you want playa azul and not playa sol. they sound very similar.azul is up north, and playa sol is south, and has more of a party atmosphere, there will most likely be alot of cruisers there. my daughters also saw dolphins swimming just outside of the swimming area.at plya azul cab ride from downtown was 4.00 i believet. the others are good too, they are all down toward the southern end of the island which is beautiful too. the only one i have not been to is playa palancar. thats in february have a great trip LJ

Nachi Cocom

I believe that overall, this is the best place for the kids.  The beach is beautiful, the water is very clear and there are thousand of shells and dead coral to see/collect.   There is a small playground (little tykes), hammocks, pool.  You can rent kayaks.  The bathrooms are spotless and the food is very good (with kid-friendly items).  My 10-year old really enjoyed it and I've seen many families there.  The staff is very friendly as well.  You will also be able to avoid the party-crowd and all that goes with it.   This is where you should go if you just want to relax and enjoy your kids.  I'm pretty sure the have snorkel rental as well.  Have a great trip.

Posted by Julie in DC on 07/30/03

Playa Corona has a beach area, restaurant, and volley ball net, and it has decent snorkelling even close to shore and easy water access.  I am almost certain you can rent snorkel gear there.  There is no admission fee.  The only draw back is that is can get crowded when groups of cruisers show up - snorkelling there is one of the packages you can buy on ship.

I don't think that Nachi Cocom has much good snorkelling (I have yet to make it there, although we wil be going there this trip), but I could be wrong there.

Have a great time!

We went to this wonderful place off of a cruise ship...  had a great time.  It is kid friendly, but others may be also.

We were there two months ago.

They just ask that you buy some drinks or food.

Posted by Debbie Dallas on 02/13/03

Just my opinion and differs from others but there is free admission at Mr. Sancho's.  Sometimes I have been there and spent a lot of money on beer and food and other times just a couple of soft drinks and always been treated the same every time - very courteous staff.  I won't name the ones that did not treat me as friendly...  Okay, I will - had a bad experience at Dzul Ha one time.

Posted by Jodi on 02/13/03

The last time we were in Coz we stopped in here & ended up spending our last two days there.  It was really nice, and the snorkeling is great.  I loved watching the sea fans floating in the ocean tide.  We're planning on going back there this year - you'll find us on their beach sometime between March 8 & 15th!  Happy snorkeling!

Posted by Kevin on 02/13/03

We will be on the Island in 5 days for 2 weeks and plan on spending at least 2-3 days at Playa Corona. We like this place because of what you can see in very sallow waters. Ferns, coral heads and lots of fish of many colors. First year they approached us. Second year we got smart and order
drinks and chips and asked for a menu. Once they arrived with first order we introduce ourselves and advisd him we would be ordering more. Thats our plan this year. We strictly snorkle and love this place. Great fish taco's, good chip and pico, big colada's with an orchid, always cold beer. Have fun.

Just back from Cozumel.  The important note about Chen Rio is that when  the western side of the island is windy the eastern side (Chen Rio) is placid.  This was the case on this day and Chen Rio was spectacular.

We did not eat the food.  After looking at pictures on a board - I was informed of that day's special which was lobster for two at $35.  I can find that deal back in the states all day long.

Chen Rio is a great beach and swimming area and that is it.

Comments: Our mouths watered thinking about getting the fried whole fish here.which we stumbled upon by accident last trip here.   It was the same as last time--unbelievable.  (The waiter got me out of the ocean to show me two fish, and have me OK the one I wanted; the larger one was more money.  Since my husband & I split it, I chose the larger.  I thought this was very sweet and honest.)  This day there were $1 Coronas, and we spend a few hours under a palapa, in the water on their lovely beach, and eating and drinking.  A memorable experience.  Easy swimming in the ocean, with no undertoe.  Lovely servers and a spotless area.

Posted by Bob P on 07/30/02

it is true they are catering to the cruise ship business during the heavy traffic times, but were happy to see business during the off times.  You might ask for Joel and tell him he was recommended on the internet.  If he isn't there, just dropping his name should open the door.
The deal is really that we arrive, take over a prime table and several chairs with our gear and then hit the water rather than spending any money.  They are just trying to run a business.  Spend a few dollars first, then snorkel and everything looks different.
The snorkeling is definitely better at Dzul-Ha.

Posted by carolt on 07/30/02

There were signs on the tables at Dzul-Ha that said there was a 15O pesos minimum that you had to spend there.  We went on a slower day, only two cruise ships in port.  We spent around $10 US on beer and they seemed perfectly happy.  The entry into the water is good, just a little splippery like most places.

Re: Playa Palancar

Very quiet the last few times we've visited. Almost to the south end of the island, so away from the crowds but not quite to the "wild" or east side of the island. Very easy entry into the water...some rocks early on, but sandy bottom the rest of the way. Hammocks, palapas, lounge chairs, etc. And not a bad menu in the restaurant, either. We enjoyed splitting the fresh fish of the day (about $10).

Posted by beth e on 06/18/02

We went to Nachi Cocom the other day and they told us that we had to spend $12.00 a person to be there. Which is interesting. Granted, we end up spending that much where we go, but they were rather stubborn on the point and with the sky threatening to rain we decided not to stay and headed over to Mr. Sanchos.

The pool is really like a big kids pool as everyone is saying. The food is good and the water is fun.

Another great becah club with no pool but palapas with hammocks, swings and beach chairs is Playancar. Also a couple of fun parrots. Very nice and very laid back.

Posted by twelvevoltman on 06/17/02

Nachi Cocom, because .....+Because of the very things you listed. Quieter, bigger pool, way more laid back. But then, those are the qualities we are looking for. It just totally depends on what your tastes are, and what you are looking for. You won't go wrong with either one, tho'............

Have a cold one for me, and as always,

Phins Up!!!!!!1

Mr. Sancho's

We enjoy going there with and without children.  The view is terrific and plenty to do and not do.  The staff is very friendly.  The bathrooms are clean.  The food is terrific (try the ribs!)and the drinks are yummy.

My kids use the "hot tub" as a pool with the local kids each time we are there.  The hot tub is usually not on during the day.  I guarantee that you will leave pools behind once you see the blue waters of Cozumel!

Have fun!

Posted by R&R on 06/17/02

Nachi Kokom is too laid back for us.  Mr. Sanchos was nice and the music isn't so loud you can't hear others talk, but it is loud enough you can enjoy it.  We never got in the pool, my daughter did the kayak thing and loved it..food was reasonable and tasty.

Posted by Grey Angel on 06/17/02

We, too, were looking for a pool, rather than just a hot tub, and it turns out that the "hot tub" at Mr. Sancho's (there is not a regular pool there), is not really "hot" and was just a great place to sit and have a few beers. The water was refreshing, and it's probably about 15' X 10' and has a little edge around the whole thing where you can sit in the water and sip your beverage of choice.  There's a neat waterfall that flows down into it, and it was probably no more than 4' deep.

That said, I love Nachi Cocom and would definitely choose it over Mr. Sancho's, because I prefer a more laid back atmosphere.  However, if you want to party and have a loud time, etc., than Mr. Sancho's might be more fun.

Posted by Terri on 06/17/02

I don't recall a pool at Mr. Sanchos.  There is a trampoline in the water and it is more of a "party" atmosphere.

Nachi Cocom has a huge pool, a large hottub and a beautiful beach.  It is quieter.  I prefer Nanchi Cocom but if you want more of a party scene, then Sancho's is for you.  Both have nice sandy beaches.

Playa Bonita south view

Posted by tut on 04/16/02

...they have a large beach, great for swimming, but not the best snorkeling. (You'll fine that the clubs with good swimming won't have good snorkeling, and the ones with good snorkeling won't have good swimming). "Mr. Sanchos" has a great bar, great food and if you buy a beer or two, you can use the beach loungers all day. Go early, say +/- 9AM to beat the ship crowd, or later in the PM +/- 3PM and you should have the place to yourself.

Posted by twelvevoltman on 04/17/02

Either Mr. Sanchos or Nachi Cocom.....it would just depend on what your beach requirments are. Both have great beaches with excellent, sandy bottom swimming areas, and both have the seating/lounging requirements you mentioned. However, Mr. Sanchos is more of a "party" atmosphere, with the louder music, etc. Nachi Cocom is quieter, more laid back. A good place to just "veg-out". However, Mr. Sanchos is very nice indeed if that is the "beach scene" you require. Either way, both are winners.

Posted by PJ on 04/17/02

The kids liked Mr. Sanchos hands down. More to do. Lots of cruise ship patrons during the week.

Playa Azul in the north hotel zone has good swimming, lounge chairs, good food (nice kitchen), cold drinks, and parking is excellent. No cover charge (Feb 2001). Our second choice.

Re: Nachi Cocom

We have enjoyed this wonderful club twice and found it very uncrowded early in the am.  I've lost my brochure and believe they had a website, need some info for our return trip in June.  Anyone have any info they can share?

Posted by Terri on 12/28/01

I would try Playa Azul +

It is north of town and has a nice sandy beach where you can walk into the water.  The snorkeling is good if you swim north a bit.  If you hit the bigger beach clubs north of town you will be right in the hustle and bustle with 500 of your cabin mates.

Ask the taxi to take you to ...+Mr. Sanchos

I would try Playa Azul +

I agree with Terry, its a beautiful but small beach and very calm...nmsg

Posted by Kris on 08/16/01

There are numerous beautiful sand bottom beaches you can get to easily from town.   Taxi's are the way to get there quickly and prices are set for each beach (ranging from $4 to $12 one way).   My favorite is Nachi Cocom (I hate to even tell people about for fear it will become busy with cruisers).   Very relaxing atmosphere, good food and service.   Nice pool and "hot" tub.  Hammocks, kayaks, etc.  CLEAN restrooms.  I also enjoy Mr. Sanchos and Playa Sol for more of a party atmosphere, more to do, etc.   You can walk down to these beaches from one another and it's really nice.   We love to go body surfing at Mezcalito (sp?).  Nice waves, restaurant, bathrooms.

Posted by Ron Lee on 08/16/01

swimming south and north of town

Body surf selected locations (like Playa Bonita) on the east side

Posted by Steve Jeffrey on 07/23/01

The east side is only for if you have a very strong constitution. The reason you will enjoy teh solitude is because no-one else wants to gt sand-blasted....

There are no residences or hotels on teh east side because that is where teh hurricanes have hot over the years and no-one can keep a structure standing. The waves and wind are way too strong over there for it to be relaxing.

On the west side the only true beaches to speak of at at the resort hotels. The All-inclusive ones like El-Coz, Allegro, Reef Club will no doubt be hit by Spring breakers though some of them have rules about this I think. By far the most relaxing place
on the whole island is the Presidente Intercontinental, south of town.

Just got back from 12 days there and sorry I had to leave! Super place to enjoy your personal space and REALLY relax.

Posted by Terri on 07/23/01

Beaches on the east side are always quiet.  YOu can find a strech of beach all to yourself.  The beach clubs such as Chakkanab, Mr. Sancho's, etc. are generally busier but it doesn't sound like that's what you are looking for.  Go to the east side and enjoy the solitude.

Posted by Christine on 07/10/01

Nachi Cocom has a nice beach and is very laid back. Down the beach at Mr. Sancho's sometimes they are playing music and the DJ is  "entertaining". Depends what you're in the mood for. The east side has the wild beaches with waves.

yep, $2 a day and the keys on a string to wear around your neck or whatever. You'll love Dzul Ha. Make sure to get far enough out to see it all.

Re: mr. sanchos

we were there this past sunday and again yesterday [since we liked it].  neither day was busy or loud.  guess it's just the luck of the draw.  the music was good, not too loud, and the bartenders and wait staff were excellent.  another nice thing about the place are the facilities, you can shower off the salt and even change out of wet suits before heading back to town if you want.

Posted by twelvevoltman on 05/18/01

Re: mr. sanchos

A beach club for the "cruiser" crowd..........

Visited there in April. Was too loud for us. Saw a lot of "ship" towels, lots of folks off the boats. Loud music, drinking contests, etc. Now, if this is your type of scene, you will love it. However, we prefer a little more peace and quiet. You will find that just down the road at Nachi Cocom. We have enjoyed this beach club the last two years. Whatever your scene, you will love it.

fins up!

Re: mr. sanchos

WE were there on a slow day.  Must have been only about 14 people in the restaurant and we were 8 of them.  Food and drinks were wonderful.  Loved the pineapple barbequed ribs. Beach was nice.  Oue daughter (3) loved the trampoline in the water.  There is a small kids pool too.  There is nice snorkeling there.  Plenty of shady palapas.  But we were told the quiet, relaxed atmosphere is not normal there.  I don't think we would have liked it as well if it hadn't been so slow.
