Free unlimited golf if you stay at Playa Azul...

I think carts are mandatory since caddies are not mandatory.  Check out Playa Azul on this site or elsewhere on the net.  They have all the info. listed and Playa Azul is a nice place right across from the course.  Good Luck. D

It's a nice links track. Take your sand, water, and rough game... yer gonna need it.

Pricey though. Cart and a round will set you back over $175.

For info on the new golf course (& I've heard that yet another one will be built in the not too distant future), go to:

www.cozumelcountryclub.com.mx

I don't play, but heard a couple of guys talking about it at the airport in April and they said for a brand new course it was pretty good.

I know I owe everyone a trip report and I'm working on the pics now, but I thought I might post a review of the golf course, having played 18 while we were there.

First off...it is in GREAT shape.  The second nine is about a year and half older than the front nine holes, but you could barely tell it.  Even the driving range is pure carpet.
It was rainy the day we played and had rained VERY hard in the early hours so the course was still draining a bit.  This really made the greens sticky and overall probably made the course easier to play.
You know your are going to have a unique round when the starter warns you that if you hit into the water (and there is lots of it)and can see your ball, ONLY retrieve it using a club,  Never use your hand.  He then proceeds to point out a five foot crocodile swimming lazily past.
We hit a bucket of warm-up balls before the round and a good sized wild pig ran screaming across the range and into the jungle.
Speaking of jungle....that is what the deep rough is made of.  There is a shallow cut and then jungle.  Thick jungle!  The fairways aren't particularly narrow, but I recommend you take extra balls.  (You can buy used balls from the workers at the course but it is purely black market and could cost them their jobs if caught).
There is lots of sand (rocky sand, at that) but it wasn't a problem this rainy day.
We rented clubs there.  "Air Bears" Nicklaus clubs. Very nice!
The green fees were $145 including cart.  The 19th hole is outside and they serve a great breakfast with large portions.
We basically had the course to ourselves, though the rain had cut into the normal cruise ship players.  Oh, we only saw three crocs total, but probably missed a few.  Lots of bird life and some very strange sounds coming out of the jungles.
I had a 10 foot putt for eagle after driving the green on a 235 yard par four.  I missed the putt, but it was the highlight of my round.

Now before any Eco-flamers get cranked up, I saw absolutely NO evidence of chemicals or fertilizers.  I know they must use them but the aren't overusing them.  The course is spread out rather than cramming 18 holes into 5 acres.

Overall....very nice!  Email me if you have questions.  PS.  We dove more than we golfed!
