Things to Do Reviews NightlifePosted by Jessica on 01/27/03 I highly recommend the dance club
Viva Mexico. They have great waiters and the place is so much fun late
at night. They also have 2 for 1 drink specials with wristbands that
they give out at the resorts around the island. If you're looking for
a good mix of tourist and local, I suggest Viva Mexico. Posted by Elisa on 06/29/02 We thought Kiss My Cactus was fun...they allowed me to bring in a wonderful piece of cake I had picked up (they said "it's Cozumel, anything goes!"...we drank 2 for 1 margaritas, watched videos (80's I think) and danced...very cool!Havana Club is neat, depending on your age and how quiet and relaxing you'd like it to be. Posted by charlie on 10/17/01 I haven't been to Cozumel since March , but I had a few thoughts. Nightlife
in Cozumel usually isn't booming, and I would expect that it has declined
further since September. Posted by Julie on 09/12/01 THE hot place to go is Cafe Salsa. It's on Avenida 10, a couple of blocks from the plaza, where Joe's used to be. The place has been very nicely appointed and they have real live salsa bands. On a Sunday, the crowd was about 65-70% locals, ranged in age from 20's to 40's. Friendly people, but not TOO friendly. I was a woman alone and felt completely comfortable. Much more adult and upscale than the bars near the waterfront. Drinks aren't cheap, but there wasn't a cover charge the night I was there and the music was terrific. The music starts between 11 and midnight, and things don't start hopping until after midnight. The party was going strong when I left at about 2. Julie A. Miller Posted by glassman on 09/06/01 club salsa that opened a month ago. Great place. Also tomorrow night a new club will open right here in front of my gallery. It's in the same place as was Joe's (most recently). They will have live music 6 days a week. We'll see how it is. Still no name on the building, so don't know what it's called Posted by Minigolf Sally on 06/26/01 Opening tomorrow is Cafe Salsa (not to be confused with the Salsa Club) on
10th Avenida between Juarez and Calle 2. Looks great from the outside and
promises live Cuban music every night. I predict it to be the new hot spot! Posted by Bean on 06/26/01 I too, was very bummed that Joe's was closed when I was last in Cozumel (got back on June 4th), But, there is a new place that has only been open about 2 months now that has live salsa. It is called the Sunset. It is right on the water, across from Neptunos disco and the super market Chedraui, it is part of the restaurant Acuario. Stephanie (my Cozumel wedding planner, a full time resident of Cozumel, and an active participant on this board, recommended it to me because she knew that they had live salsa. So we went with her and her husband and some other board people (Panchita and friends!) and it was really, really nice. The band was awesome, and it was right on the water. It was very classy looking and so we thought it would also be expensive but it turned out to be one of the cheapest places we went($1.50-Corona)! I would definitely recommmend it, it is my new favorite nite-spot in Cozumel. Have fun and I am jealous!! --Bean Posted by Lisa on 05/14/01 Re: neptunos Went there once, starts very, very late and it apprears to be a young local hang out. The night I was there, or should I say morning, it was basically the group that I went with and about 5 other locals. I know it does get very busy but what days, I am not sure.Posted by MikeP on 05/14/01 I went to Neptunos during Carnival and it was Crazy! i stopped in a few times because i was staying across the street. It was always empty. The i took the advice of the guys who work yhere and went after midnight. it was great! i was the only gringo there. the dancefloor was packed. the music was great. Posted by Kollman on 05/15/01L ots of the locals will spill over from all the other bars to Neptunos later in the evening. Like MikeP said there aren't many gringos, but you will have a good time and shouldn't have any problems w/ your group. Hit Joes at 10:30 and then Neptunos around 12:30. That should time it about right for seating and partying. Posted by JennyO on 02/27/01 Not a problem to find a place to dance with your new HUSBAND! Fat
Tuesdays is on a corner in the square. This place gets moving after
10'ish until late at night. Get a really good buzz and you will find
yourself on dancing on the bar! Koko's is the club off the corner from
Tuesdays, on 2nd floor. Walk into their club and you will feel like the
bass is coming out of your stomach. Viva Mexico is a waterfront store by
day, and at night 2nd floor turns into a nightclub. They play a good mix
of latin club, 80's, and pop music. Joe's is a couple of blocks from the
square. The bands are always great, this place just has a good vibe
every night. I have heard Hogsbreath also has good live music. Hard
Rock Cafe usually has a decent band. Of course, you will hit
Carlos'n'Charlies. This place really gets moving later in the night.
Be prepared at this place since anything goes, its hot, loud, and your
bound to either make a memory or lose your memory here! Posted by Rob on 11/30/00 Viva Mexico is indeed lively from about 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. If it gets a
little too lively, wander across the street and sample the vocal stylings at the
Karaoke bar. (Really, it does help if you're a little hammered before you go
in.) Posted by Molly on 11/22/00 Re: Carlos and Charlies is an adventure .... Man, that place is crazy. Hit it about 8:30 and try not to get too drunk...they will force the booze down you if you are not careful. Posted by pearlincoz on 11/08/00 Kiss my Cactus is fun - just down from C&C. Neptunes is more of a local place - is really hopping but starts very late at night - about 11pm. Another good local spot is Black & White - salsa club up on 30th avenida - starts late too. Be carefull of the east coast at night. There is no electricity so all the spots over there are closed at sundown. Beaches are drop dead gorgeous - but dangerous undertows - take caution - also wouldn't go out there for romantic evening too late - can be packs of wild dogs! Have a great trip! Posted by Nick on 09/04/00 They do serve Breakfast, (Opens at 11:00 AM) Lunch and Dinner. The Food is well prepared and really Good. They make an "Havana Club Sandwich" that Takes two to Finish. The Havana Club is really a Jazz & Cigar Bar. The Music that comes out of this place is Great. Sit back, enjoy a Real Havana Cigar, from its Hugh Humidor. You'll feel like your in a 5 Star Hotel Cigar Bar. The Atmosphere is second to none. They Show Special Sporting events on the 6 Foot Screen located against the Middle Wall for all to see. The Temperature of the Air Conditioning makes you forget about the Hot Temperatures outside. This is one place you should put on your Agenda. Nick F Posted by Stuart and Kristin on 08/23/00 Carlos' & Charlie's...An absolute must, even if you're not a partier. If you didn't go to Carlos' & Charlie's, you didn't go to Cozumel. Enough said. Posted by Twentysomething on 08/23/00 Ugh! Carlos & Charlie's was the worst! A friend who had been to Cozumel told us we HAD to go there, that it was a MUST DO thing, even though there's one in our hometown of Austin. It was packed with SERIOUSLY drunk tourists (we're talking borderline alcohol poisoning here), but no amount of alcohol could make the interminable blowing of goofy whistles by the staff less annoying. On top of that, it was the ONLY place we ate at in Mexico that made us sick, even though our food was cooked through. Thumbs down. Posted by alice in az on 08/16/00 Sunday evening the square comes alive with a traditional "paseo,"
lots of locals come out to parade around, meet friends and dance to a local
band. Don't miss it! It starts about 7:30 or so 'til 9:30 but the
times may vary. Everybody is there, from tourists, to grandmas to pretty
little girls all dressed up. Have fun, alice Posted by Angela on August 10, 2000 Joe's Lobster is a great place to go at night. The food is great but you really go there for the salsa music. It is not on the main strip but only located a few blocks into the center of town. It isn't a large place but the crowd is just the right size & mix of locals and out of towners. I highly recommend this place. Have a great time. Posted by Jls91099@aol.com on August 1, 2000 Carlos 'n Charlie's is the place to be! We hvae visited it for the past two spring breaks. If you talk to the workers tell them Laura and Diane from Waco said HI and we will see them next year!! Posted by Ronny on 07/31/00 Try Carlos & Charlie's. The food is so so, but the place is wild. Not really known for food but you can eat there. Posted by m&r texas on 07/31/00 We just returned from our first trip to Cozumel last Thurs. The place we enjoyed most was Joe's Lobster House. They had great reggae music. They have great shrimp (didn't try the lobster) there too. ok, you want the scoop on nightlife I will give you the 411... Posted by Nick F on April 24, 2000 Almost forget, if you like Jazz, The New Havana Club, Thursday, Fri & Sat nites around 10:00 PM is really a nice place to be. During other times some of the bands play there from the cruise ships. Have fun. Nick F Posted by Deb on April 24, 2000 My husband and I got home yesterday morning. Carlos and Charlies really gets going about 10:30 p.m., it does get really warm in there. They play alot of rock, then switch a few songs to local favorites. Mix it up pretty well. We also went to Hogs Breath Saloon several nights. They seemed to switch live entertainment different nights. Thursday night was a great band playing a lot of Bob Marley. Earlier in the week some great music with wooden flutes and guitars. Also Fat Tuesdays was rockin. Hope this helps. Posted by Mary Anne on February 18, 2000 Carlos 'n Charlies Just ate there 2.14.00 all decorated for Valentines day- very festive-the food was GREAT- priced just right- many locals there that night! Would highly recommend. Mary Anne
