Cozumel Trip Report Posted by betty on 10/16/02 Coz Report 2002 Well, for who ever is interested here goes. I am very exhausted tonight, but need the distraction: Left work on Friday, the 27th of Sept. in a dead run for home, so we could head out from there. Drove to Little Rock(3 hours South) to stay with family the night. Left LR around noon destined for Dallas hotel, arrived exhausted and starving around rush hour in Dallas...putting us there for dinner around 7:30-8...Here is a tip: Do not eat at Bennigans, it sucked. Newbys to Dallas area, was a mistake...Plan was to shop on Sunday at the Grapevine Mall, had a blaaaaaaaaast. Must: Eat at the Rainforest Cafe in Grapevine Mall. Husband ice skated while we shopped, so he was distracted......Was awesome. Nobody slept Sunday night!!!Too excited, flying out to Coz, to be at airport by 5am woke up at 3am. First in line to hurry up and wait, but boy is it good to get the security junk over with and get rid of all the heavy baggage. Arrived to beautiful weather in sunny Coz on Monday, the 29th at approx. 11:30am myself, husband and new to Coz my 13 yr old Cassie. Here expression as we descended was priceless. After being randomly selected for baggage search and making it to The Allegro we found ourselves thrilled and excited to start the new adventure. It was as beautiful as we remembered and we welcomed the heat, humidity, and especially the beautiful scenery. Our room was ready and we went and changed clothes and headed to lunch. An ok lunch awaited at the snack bar and we rushed to change into swimwear to pass out in the sun. The water was stunningly clear and the hotel and grounds immaculate, as usual. And the ever attentive staff amazes me. They are always working SO hard, and are so happy and helpful....WOW. My husband could not wait, went snorkelling right away...and my daughter, well, she was swimming in the ocean for the first time. Cool. The water crystal clear, we quietly noted how cute the young man was next to us who was attempting to sail the Hobiecat. Adorable, we decided. Wonder how old, I asked Cassie. She thought he was really cute, and myself have never seen a 14 yr old that adorable. That afternoon, Cassie participated in a kayak race in the Pool, wherein she got the 3rd fastest time only to meet and be beat by the cute boy, Charles, who's mother introduced them! This was awesome. They were so cute together, and had the same personalities....were inseparable until Charles left on Thurs., and of course, adults were checking in on them every 30 minutes or so. Allegro is great because it is private, and Cassie was therefore able to go to breakfast w/out us and meet us there...or any meal for that matter, the only thing I did not do was let her swim in the ocean w/out an adult present. And again, we checked on her religiously. It really allowed her some independance, while still having quality family time and a great vacation. Monday night found husband drinking, Cassie and Charles dining together, and me just chilling out between the two situations....we sat on the beach and by the pool and just listed to the ocean and looked at the stars. All in all, the first day could not have been more perfect. Great flight and beautiful weather....Aah I miss it now as I recall. More to come in a day or so, we were there seven days and this just covers the prelude and the first day. Coz 2002 day 2 Well, let's see....We got up around 8am for a leisurly walk to the giant breakfast buffet. I peaked out the door before I was dressed so I could breathe in the humidity and try to convince myself I was really here!!!!A palm tree right outside the door convinced me that I was indeed there. Our room was ground floor, 510? which is about 15-20 steps from the snack bar and the bar and pools. Grrrrrrrreat. We could not get over how beautiful everything was, just as we remembered, breathtaking. We enjoyed the huge buffet, we had talked about missing the made to order omelets and the sweet faced lady who makes them. We enjoyed our walk back to the room and quickly changed into our swimsuits(!) for the beach ocean vegging. Cassie was attached to Charles, or he to her, who knows which. They stayed in the relaxing pool mostly....Although, every activity that was planned, she was right in the middle of it-you name it. All the waiters and staff told her how beautiful she was and her sister, too(?). Had some trouble convincing them I was her mother. They thought I was her 21 yr old sister and how sweet it was that I would bring my little sis. Aah, Mexico. The water was exceedingly clear and the sun was shining....It was a fantastic morning that ran into lunch, and back to the water. We decided to take a walk down the beach to Mr. Sancho's so Cassie could get her hair braided and because I read they have a water tramp. A staff member told us to walk because it was only 5 minutes, however, maybe he did not realize that hurricane isadore had eroded the beach and it was a little tricky....we made it though. I had to try Sol, although I cannot drink but I have to say that for beer it was good? The shrimp quesidillos were muy fantastic and it started raining. There was a bit of wind, and we waited as the lady kept braiding others ahead of Cassie, despite the fact she was 'next'2 heads ago....Oh well, no sweat. There was definitely a cruise ship 'round, because there were all the signs......There were alot of vendors saying come here mr. wallet. Would you believe my husband actually dropped his wallet, and a vendor came running up as we caught a taxi back(all the $ still there)? It rained all afternoon, clearing to a beautiful sunset around 4:30. Was a beautiful one, and we went to a fabulous dinner buffet and settled into an evening of mosquitoes, liquor, and relaxation....Day 3 next: He dives "Say you saw it on Travelnotes.cc!"
