Comments: This was going to be a relaxing vacation for my wife and I. Not
the normal dive, dive, and dive some more vacation that we are use to doing in
Cozumel. We have been there seven times prior to this trip. We discovered
Alicia's B & B and this was our second time there. Our trip began by
pulling into the St. Louis airport parking lot and getting crunched by one of
the airport parking shuttles. Our car was not able to be driven. The airport
stated that they would have our car fixed by the time that we returned home.
They took our keys and rushed us to the gate to catch our flight. Our flight
was then delayed about two hours due to fog. Once we did arrive in Cozumel we
got our rental car from Avis at the airport and were off to Alicias where
Alicia, Chuco, Orlando, Chavita and Venedita were waiting. Alicia's is my
first choice when going to Cozumel and I would not consider staying anywhere
else. After seeing everyone we were off to get a bit to eat. We went to a
little T
aco Al Pastor place on 30th called Los Serras. The food was great! We
were the only non-residents eating there. That is another reason that I like
to stay at Alicia's. It is a much more authentic Mexican vacation. After
dinner we headed back to Alicias to get some sleep after a long and trying
day.
Day Two we woke up to one of Chuco's delicious breakfasts, his Papas I
believe. Then we were off to Chankannab park to dive the caves there and relax
a bit. After the dive, we met Pete and April Razey there and decided to go to
the east side for some drinks and lounging. The first stop was at Coconuts.
Now I must let everyone know that Coconuts chicken nachos have always been one
of my favorite things on the island. I mean they WERE great! When I ordered
them this time, there were eight chips not even touching each other on the
plate! What a joke! This was a very big disappointment and now I believe a
total rip. I cannot speak for any of the other food as after that I did not
try anything else other that the drinks. We then proceeded to Mezcalitos where
we had some of the garlic shrimp. A1 as usual. They have wonderful garlic
shrimp and it really is a must have while you are there. After that we all
went in and got cleaned up to get ready for dinner later. Again I must give y
ou some history. La Mission has always been one of our favorite
restaurants and we have eaten there numerous times. We all decided to go to
Casa Mission. Can you say Tourist trap? Way, way overpriced and not very good
service. It is all about the $$$ there. I will never eat there again. Back to
Alicia's for some cerveza, conversation and then to bed.
Day Three: I went diving with our friend and resident Dive guru Alison Dennis:
Scuba with Alison. Three tanks. One at Palancar Gardens, one at Cedar Wall,
and one at bolones de Chankanaab. Wonderful diving with great people. One of
our friends that we had met on our last trip was also there again. Susan
McClain. Susan is a great diver and always fun to be with. It was a wonderful
surprise! After the dives, it rained for a bit and we got cleaned up for
dinner at Las Tortugas on 30th. This was our first time eating here and I must
say it was super! I believe that it is one of our new favorites. The shrimp
fajitas and chicken fajitas were the best ever! Great and friendly service,
reasonable prices and wonderful food. You can't beat it. Back to Alicias for
some rest.
Day Four: Today was really about just lounging. We lounged at Dzul-ha and did
some snorkeling. We lounged on the east side. We just lounged. Nothing overly
special.
Day Five: Went to Dzul-ha with Marcel and Cathy from Alicias in the morning.
We then went back and picked up Alicia, and we all went to the east side for
some drinks at Mezcalitos and Chen Rio. For dinner we ate at a little
Pescadria on 65th called Charritas. This was another great place we discovered
and I recommend it highly. After dinner we went back and helped Orlando with
his English and he helped us with our Spanish. We enjoyed Orlando's company
greatly. He is a very wonderful person.
Day Six: We went to Playa Palancar for some lounging. They have a wonderful
beach area. For lunch we ate at a Pollo Asada place called Pollo Caribe on
30th I think. Great food, Great price. I recommend it. THen back to the east
side for two for one happy hour and Senior Iguanas. Senior Iguanas is the new
place next to Mezcalitos. Nice place! For dinner it was back to Los Serras
with Orlando and Susan..
Day seven: We went to Dzul-ha with Susan in the morning and around to the east
side for the afternoon. It was Las Tortugas for dinner again. I think I could
eat there every night..
Day Eight: Back home where our car actually was repaired and waiting.
It is always fun in Cozumel. Mostly because of the wonderful people like
Alicia, Chuco, Orlando, Susan, Alison, and the many others. Thanks again
everyone!!!
