Trip report Day 1 March 1, 2002

Flight left Chicago O'hare a little late and we arrived in Cozumel at 9:30PM. I had a reservation for Executive at the airport and was told they would be there until 11:00pm for pickup. No one was there. Our friend Alison (Scuba with Alison) met us at the airport and ended up giving us a ride to Alicias B & B. We got settled in there and  took a taxi($2.00) to the Plaza for something to eat at about 11:00PM. We ate at the restaraunt next to Plaza Leza (?). The food was very good and reasonable. I gave my wife, Cassie, the new diamond ring she always wanted there. After dinner we went to Kiss my Cactus. I had a cerveza and she  had a coke ($5.00) Taxi back to Alicias and called it a night after a long travel day.

Trip report Day 2 March 2,2002

Got up early and Chuco made us omeletes, fresh fruit and his famous guacamole. We took a taxi back to the airport to try and pick up our car. We met with the Executive guy who agreed to give us a free days use of the car because no one was there when we arrived. (It was the same price I was quoted if I picked it up when we arrived. But the way he figured it, he said he was giving us a free day.?) We took the car, picked up our dive gear and headed out to meet ALison at the Caleta for a 2 tank early afternoon dive. The only ones with Alison today were Cassie and I, and two guys from California, Jeremy and Rob. The 1st dive was on Bolones de Chankanaab. The highlight of the dive was an eagle ray that came gliding along. We also had an encounter with the atlantis submarine that came buzzing by us! 2nd dive was Paradise reef.

After the dives went back to Alicias and got cleaned up. Then we were off to the new Casa La Mission for dinner. The food was excellent but a bit more expensive than some restaraunts. They now have 2 lions and a monkey on the grounds. The gardens and setting is wonderful. After dinner it was back to Alicias.

Alicia, Chuco and Chavita were wonderful throughout the trip! We spent alot of "between time" with them all. As you will see in the following trip reports, we think they are great and have found our new home in Cozumel! I recommend them highely!

Trip report Day 3, March 3, 2002

We woke up late and had to skip breakfast in order to catch a 2 tank dive with Alison. On the boat was Alison, Susan, Sam, Mark, Kristy, Cassie and I. The 1st dive was at Yucab. A good dive. The highlight for me was a couple of those large rainbow parrots. The 2nd dive was at Las Palmas. My wife cassie has been wanting to see sea horses forever. Today was her lucky day! We saw two of them and were able to get some okay pics. We also seen another huge eagle ray at the end of the dive. After the dive, Susan,Kristy, Mark, Cassie and I went to the east side and hit Coconuts and Mescalitos until dark. On the way back to town we stopped by Susans to use her internet and then went to La Parillos for some nachos and stuff. After that Susan went home and Mark, Kristy, Cassie and I ended up at Senior Frogs. Earlier in the day I had met Ann (Sol Girl) as we were just leaving Alicias. We then met her and her daughter again dancing the night away at Carlos and Charlies & Senior Frogs. But anyway more about that later. Parted ways with Mark and Kristy and said goodbyes because they were leaving in the morning. We really had fun with them. Wonderful people! On the way back to Alicias we stopped at Noche y Dia and had a pastor. Noche y Dia was soon to become our favorite little late night snack place!

More later

Trip report days 4 & 5 March 4th/5th

Day 4-NORTE! windy and rainy! No diving, no sunning, not much of anything. Went and developed some underwater pics we took and went to Chedraui for some things we needed. Cassie took a nap. Day 4 was the worst of the weather. That night we went and ate at Noche y Dia again and did a little shopping for some gifts.

Day 5: Weather still kind of nasty. No sun, less rain and wind. We were wearing long pants and a coat for the last two days. Went to the internet cafe next to Neptunos and sent off some email. Jim, Dawn, Cassie and I went to Mescalitos, Coconuts, and Chen Rio for drinks. Jim and Dawn were staying at Alicias also and this was there last day. We were going to make the best of it.

On the way back from Chen Rio we seen that two girls had driven their jeep onto the beach and were stuck. There was no way it was coming out so we gave them a ride to there hotel, Coral Princess. They invited us in to buy us some drinks for helping them. Then it was out to dinner at El Moro. El Moro was very good food and reasonably priced. Then went to bed shortly after and Hoped very much the sun would return tomarrow.

trip report day 6 March 6th, 2002

Woke up early and looked outside. THE SUN! Ate another wonderful breakfast by Chuco at Alicias and headed off for a two tank dive with Alison. Dived Palancar Gardens with Susan, Alison, Gary from a cruise ship and two from Iberostar(sorry cant remember the names right now). Cassie got some great pics of a sea turtle.

Second dive was at Paso del Cedral. I took some good pics of a HuGe LoBsTeR! Then we seen another spotted eagle ray! After the dives we went back to Alicias and picked up Ann. Then Ann, Susan, Sam, ALison, Cassie and I were off to Dzul Ha. Susan and Sam did a shore dive and Ann and I went snorkeling.

After cleaning up at Alicias, Cassie and I went out to eat at the Asian Garden. Very good food but unless you have a very large appetite I would split an entree. After dinner we met up with Alison and Ann at the Havana Club for a couple of drinks. Alison introduced us to Nick. Then it was back for some sleep at Alicias.

Trip report day 7 March 7th, 2002

Again we awoke and ate a fantastic breakfast by Chuco! We met Alison at the Caleta for our last dives this trip. We dived San Francisco wall with Susan, Alison, Cassie, Trent and Terri (Iberostar couple) and myself. My mask strap broke on this dive and I almost lost it a couple of times. Alison could tell I was getting a bit P. O. with the mask. But we seen another spotted eagle ray!

The second dive was on Dalila. The current was moving fairly good on this dive. We seen a couple of nurse sharks along with the other zillion fish that are the norm.

Susan, Cassie and I went to Punta Morena, Mescalitos and Coconuts for some drinks and snacks. Ended up back at Alicias and got cleaned up for the night. Susan, Cassie and I then went to Senior Frogs, Carlos and Charlies, and ended up at Cafe Salsa. Cassie had picked up a dessert from the Coffee Bean earlier and we split that when we got back to Alicias.

trip report last day

Our last day! We woke up and ate Chucos wonderful breakfast. Our flight did not leave until 10:00pm so we had all day. We ended up at Mr. Sanchos for awhile and then headed back to the east side for the rest of the day. We grabbed a bite to eat at Noche y Dia before we went to the airport. We said goodbye to everyone and went to the airport. Turned in the car to Executive with no problems and caught the flight out. Arrived in Chicago at about 1:30am.

It always seems like everytime we go, we come away with many new friends and meeting some very good people. I just want to say thanks to everyone: Alicia and Chuco(the best hosts!), Alison(The best instructor!), Ann, Susan, Mark, Kristy, Jim and Dawn. Your all great!!!
