Trip Report

Coral Princess Hotel & Resort
Coral Princess Cozumel Coral Princess Cozumel

We arrived early Friday Morning on ATA airlines. We had an uneventful flight and were dropped off at the Coral Princess Hotel. The lobby was small but comfortable. Pedro and Humberto were there to take our bags. These guys were great, most polite and very cordial. We got to room and were very satisfied with the appointments. Everything was clean and in order. Who needs a room in Cozumel other than to shower and sleep anyway? The first day we lay around and checked out the fish behind the hotel. One couple with us dove with Pedro (I believe he was the hotel dive shop guy). They enjoyed their dive with him. Both times they dove they were the only ones in the boat, which they liked. I just wish I were certified. That night we had food at Ernesto’s. The food was decent, but when you are from Houston it is hard to find better Mexican/Tex-Mex anywhere. We had eight people in the group and most had fajitas. Saturday One couple dove again. The rest of us went to the pier and got a private snorkel trip for the 4 couples in the group. I don't remember whom the tour operator but the guides were Babaloo and Marcos. They were fantastic. For 20 bucks each we had a great time. That night we ate at Guido’s downtown. The food there was excellent and a nice atmosphere to boot. Sunday we chartered 2 boats with Cozumel Anglers Fleet. My wife and I fished with Capt. Luis on the Marlin Azul, three other friends were on the Marlin Rabayo. My wife and I had a great trip catching 5 Dorado to 50 pounds. We also caught an 87" sailfish, which is a pretty good one. We had other fish hooked and chasing our baits but couldn't get those. This cost my wife and I 400 plus a 60-dollar tip but was worth every penny. We kept 2 small Dorado and gave the rest to the Capt. The Capt and deck-hand (Carlos) were very professional. The boat with my friends was another story. First they didn't have enough diesel and couldn't fish where we went. Their baits were old and nasty and generally they were extremely ill prepared. They did catch 1 30lb Dorado but they should have done much better. To make matters worse my friend on that boat is a charter Capt. himself here in Galveston so he really was quite displeased. He ended up driving the boat for half the trip. They ended up giving the guys 300 of the 400 owed and walked off. I don't blame them and felt pretty bad about the whole deal because I set it up. That night we had a feast of fresh Mahi-Mahi at the hotel for 10 people at 5 bucks a plate. We were up early Monday Morning (6/4) headed to the airport after thanking Humberto and Pedro for their hospitality. I would come back to this hotel just because of these guys. We had a 2.5 hour delay getting back to Houston because supposedly the pilot hadn't had enough rest but other than that the trip home was smooth. I hope this info helps someone a little. I just thought I would contribute since I have gotten such good information from this site. We hope to be back soon.
