Comments: My brother and I stayed at the Iberostar from 10-13-02 to 10-21-02.  We have stayed at Allegro and Club Cozumel Caribe in the past.  I have been coming every year since 95'.  We were very happy with the entire resort.  We enjoyed the twisting, paved jungle paths throughout the property- very exotic.  Pink flamingos and peacocks roam around wild.   The beach was great, not crowded, and had many private little thatched umbrellas, with comfortable lounges.  the pool is huge and has 3 or 4 sections and 2 swim up bars.  We only had a few drinks but they were good.
We went diving every day with Blue Angel divers (alex & alex).  They picked us up at the hotel pier each morning, and they asked us were we wanted to go!!  The divemasters were very knowlegeable about the sites.   We used them last year after the operators at Allegro said that we could dive no deeper than 65 feet.?  We tried, unsuccessfully, to explain that some dives don't start till 90 feet.  We are both experienced, advanced divers.  Anyway, after hooking up with Alex and Alex, the diving was incredible- sharks, rays, many turtles, large morays, etc.  Don't miss Columbia shallows.  We hired Joe at Hotel Lorena to shoot a dive video for us one day, it was well worth the money.  I have always taken an Ikelite setup in the past but it is a hassle sometimes.  Its also nice to actually be in the videos.
The rooms were nice, the service was great, 2 hour laundry service! Nice stocked, (free) fridge in the room, very handy.  A friend's room had some light bulb trouble but the sevice man had it taken care of in about an hour.  The safe in the room was nice, seemed very secure.  The AC worked almost too well!  We had a few tropical downpours but no leaks.
Yes, there are mosquitos in the eve. as in any jungle environment.  Bug spray does work fine.  Being from Missouri, we're used to that.  I watched one evening show, very entertaining!
The food spread for meals was quite elaborate and varied, and was really as good as steak houses back home.  On one night they had a grill set up and you could pick your own lobster tail, swordfish, or shrimp, etc and the chef would grill it for you with your choice of spices.  Incredible!

Overall, I give the Iberostar a 9/10.
Doug
