MY COZUMEL 2001 TRIP REPORT.
(Readers Digest Condensed Version)

My fellow Travelnotes posters, Tut, Deb, Corey, Jodi and myself experienced a sort of divine intervention as we all ended up sitting together on the ride down to Cozy! Totally unplanned just the way the chips fell.  Was that a sign or what?

Our Mini Golf Meeting provided us the oportunity to meet a few other travelnotes posters.  Corey bedazled us with not one, but two hole in ones in a row!!!!

Again, my all time favorite resteraunt is Leo Rojo's Manatee.  This one time Mexican Soap opera star, turned artist, turned inventor, turned chef is indeed a modern day renisaaunce(sp) man.  His food is to Die foor!  I had at one sitting not one, but two Im a little piggy portios of his spinach and rokerford chees lasagna oh BABY ........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  WordS just can describe it!!!!!!

As I too consider my self a bit of a photographer, I occasionally head out for the east side of the island to catch some sunrise photos.  One morning while heading out of town on the transverse road,  I came up on a little boy hoofing it to the east side,  As I slowed down to pass I looked back at him walking and noticed it was Rolando, the same little 8 year old boy who Corey, Jodi and myself had Bartered with the day before on the east side for a very nice (plastic) necklace.   I stopped and Rolando eagarly accepted a ride from me.   I asked him where he was going, and this very proud little 8 year old boy puffed out his chest looked at me, and said to MY JOB as he pointed to his little fanny pack pouch stuffed full of beads. He then proceeded to tell me of his business and how he was el jefe (the boss)

So I dropped him off at Metizomos and bummed around there for a good part of the morning.  Alan showed up on his scooter a little later and we hung out for a bit.

As I was leaving to head towards the South point I saw Rolando again hoofing it.  So I gave him a ride this time to coconuts.  Rolando assured me that business was better there at this time of day.  To make a long story short I gave Rolando severel rides that day. We agreed that I would recive a a  conch shell and coral necklace as payment and  thusly I turned into his employee.  I would stop where he wanted, lie on the beach and tan or drink a beer and when he was ready to go he would whistle and snap his fingers from the road and I would come running.  He liked that. I have to say that little boy was a master at charming toursits.  He could read personality types,  turn on the Im so cute charm, He had an angle for everthing.  I watched him make several hundred dollars easy.

I got my necklace and Rolando was the best boss I ever worked for!

I pretty much Hung around the town square watching all the parades and shows.  Carnivale was incredible.  The energy and effort these people as a community put into the celebraion is incredible.  It is a must see.

Corey and Jodi and Myself ventured over to the mainland one day.  I was a tourguide of sorts and brought them to the Siaan Kaan Biosphere.  We had a nice lunch at a small Cabana style hotel along the coast.  stopped at a few beaches in the reserve and at Tulum and Akumal. On the way back we say a broke down dump truck being pused by hand off the road....... go figure.

In spite of the many changes, both good and bad that I have seen in Cozumel over the last 10 years, It continues to hold a special place in my heart and bekons me back year after year.  There is still plenty of remote places to visit on the island. And there are definately some places that are not so remote.  Whatever your style or mood is it can be found, It can be Carlos and Charies for bump and grind all night or if you dont want all that noise  there is bachi ball, board games and Karoke at the NO NAME BAR ( My personal Favorite)

Thats it for my report

It was wonderfull hanging out with Tut, Deb, Corey Jodie Alan and the many other freinds I met.

A special thanks to Gringo Golf Scot and Sally, as always your information in invaluable, your golf course gets better looking every year.

Next year for sure Carnival will be when I come.
