Trip Report

Coral Princess Hotel & Resort
Coral Princess Cozumel Coral Princess Cozumel

Just returned from Cozumel (Oct 29th). We flew via Sun Country 737 from Dallas/Fort Worth. Security was extra nice to see, as we were picture ID'd 3 times before getting on the plane. Customs was same as usual, just a bit more lead time to clear.

We arrived in Cozumel Oct 26th, stayed at Coral Princess Hotel about 1 1/2 miles north of town, right next to airport practically. One of the best hotel choices we've had in several out-of-country trips. Clean, modern, without the plush, but right on the water. We were snorkeling half an hour after arriving at the hotel, with water was 80 degrees. Spent 1 1/2 hours in water and saw 38 different fish, including 3 species of moray eels. But by the time we went back to our room and cleaned up to go to dinner, the wind began increasing. By Saturday morning, we were having 3-6 foot swells with a few whitecaps. We had reservations to go out on an all day snorkel trip, but this was cancelled, as no one, whether divers, fishermen, or others could go out. By noon, even a cruise ship turned around and headed back for where they came from. Sunday was just as bad, but without the rain. Too rough for anyone to get on the water. We just sat in our room or out on the steps looking at that water we wanted to be in so badly. By Monday morning, the swells had disappated by half, and we were determined to make an attempt to get in the water before leaving for the airport at 11:00a.m. At 8:45 I and my wife and a few others jumped in, snorkeled for a few minutes, and then got out, just to see if we could get out. Then in we went again and had a nice 30 minutes with some questionable picture taking.

The weekend wasn't all a loss. We managed to try several restaurants and were not disappointed. On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being outstanding, we ate at the following: Santiago's Grill - 5 Palmera's - 4-5 La Mission - 5 La Choza - 4

We also ate breakfast at the Coral Princess and we rate breakfasts at 4. We will definitely stay at the Coral Princess again. Staff and restaurant waiters made our trip rewarding, despite the weather. We'd suggest car rental through an agency outside the hotel, however.

Hope this report helps those who are deciding where to stay and eat. John
