Cozumel Trip Report Trip report - Reef Club Dec. 3-8 I had planned on posting this as soon as we arrived home but was too busy.Dec. 3 This was my husband's and my honeymoon. We flew from Denver to Houston and then to Cozumel on Continental. We arrived on time and was taken to a suburban that was jam packed with other people on their way to the Reef Club. We were checked in and taken to our room. We had paid for a beach front room and that is what we got. It was a room on the second floor, towards the edge of the Reef property and was very private. The only problem when the guy showed us around the room he turned on the air conditioner and it blew ants all over the room! We called the front desk but no one ever came so I stomped on them. I figured the next day when they cleaned the room they would be swept up and they were. By the time we settled in it was almost sundown, so we walked along the beach and acquainted ourselves with the layout of the club. We or I should say my husband got roped into a time share deal. We were looking for the front desk and a helpful guy takes us to his little booth and was giving us information about the island and then he got to the part about a breakfast and a vehicle rental for $20 I knew we had been had, but of course my husband hadn't been reading this board and he has a hard time telling anyone "NO". Antonio wanted $10 to hold our reservation for breakfast, I said no but my husband thought I was being rude. So I let him pay the $10 but when we left I said we wouldn't be going to the breakfast because I wasn't going to waste my entire morning on listening to a time share speal. We ate and had a few drinks at the bar and went to bed early, we had gotten up at 3:00 a.m. to drive to Denver. I didn't care for the way you had to line up at the bar for service, but most of the time there wasn't too long of a wait. The drinks at this bar were so-so but later we tried some drinks at the pool bar and the bartender there did a much better job. Dec. 4 - We spent the day at the beach at the Reef Club. The weather was nice but the clouds drifted over the sun off and on throughout the entire day. My husband John decided to try windsurfing. I had been debating whether to get in the water because when I felt it, it seemed too cold, but as the day progressed more and more people were getting in, and my husband was in the water quite a bit since the windsurfing wasn't going too well! I figured if he could stand the water, I certainly could. He's not much for cold water. So I went to the room to get my snorkle stuff and got in. Was cold at first but once I was all the way in, the water was great. Didn't see a lot of fish, but I just love to snorkle and be in the water, I think in my former life I was a fish! And more bad luck for my husband, sometime during the day of windsurfing, he had lost his arm band that lets everyone know we are allowed to be here. Great, that would cost $30 to replace! We decided to see how long we could go without it. Dec. 5 It was very windy this morning so we decided to rent a car. We got one from the people here at the Club. We wanted a VW Bug but they were all taken so we ended up with a Geo Metro, we checked it out and we was off towards San Miguel. We did a little sightseeing and shopping. Seen 3 or 4 cruise ships docked and the shopping area became very crowded so we decided to head out around the island. Our first stop was Punta Sur and Rasta's. We took pictures and just absorbed the beautiful scenery! The water was just absolutely gorgeous, turquoise, aqua, navy blues crashing on the rocks! We stopped at Playa Bonita and decided to eat. This was the only place that we were bothered by any kind of bug, the flies were terrible here. We shared the sea food platter and a couple of drinks. Cost us $44, I thought it was very expensive. We were the only ones at Playa Bonita for awhile but more people showed up while were were there. Next stop was Coconuts, it was great! John tried the Coco-Loco, actually he had two of them, good thing I was driving! I had a Pina Colada, it was delicious! We met the owner, Mike, originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He said his partner died recently so he moved to Coz to manage Coconuts. He mentioned that he was planning on breaking ground on a time share next to his bar! We made several more picture stops on the East side. It is so beautiful, I didn't want to turn to go back to the other side. One thing I did notice was a lot of trash thrown out in the places we stopped to take pictures. I can't believe it is that hard to keep the trash in your cars until you get to a trash can. Too bad people aren't more considerate of the beauty here. Back into town and picked up a couple of things for my kids. I'll post the remainder of our trip later. Lodging Reviews
