Quick trip report

We returned on Friday from a week at El Cozumeleno.  This was our third visit to Coz and this resort.  Our experience at El Coz was again a very good one.  We had a room with a great view on the 7th floor.  The resort is still kept up very nicely, the people there are very friendly, and the food actually has improved in my opinion (still not great, but pretty good).  We were told by one of the waiters that they have a new food and beverage manager.

A good part of our trip was spent being very lazy with lots of time spent at the pool and beach.  The weather was great - I think it rained for about 5 minutes during our trip.  We did some snorkeling off the beach at the resort but didn't see too much.  They used to have a big sand bag out in the water in front of part of the beach which they have removed.  While it's much more pleasing to the eye with it removed, it was also where a lot of the sea life used to congregate.

We took a snorkeling cruise on the Manta Ray out to a couple of spots - saw a cool sea snake and sting ray at one of the stops.

We enjoyed two delicious meals at our favorite restaurant - La Choza.  Had some great shrimp fajitas and shrimp chile relenos and of course some Sols too!  One night after dining there, we walked down to Glassman's gallery.  He has some really gorgeous pieces of glass art - I know what we're saving up for on our next trip!  Nice meeting you Glassman.

The best part of the trip was our trip to the East side, which we'd never experienced before (Boy, what we were missing!)  We'd debated about the cab vs. rental car and ended up going the cab route, which I was really pleased that we did.  We had a great cab driver named Julio.  He spoke really good English and was really a neat guy.  He taught us so much about what it's like to live in Cozumel - I really learned a lot  We ended up enjoying his company so much that we invited him to join us for snacks at Coconuts and Playa Bonita.  Our first stop was at Mescalitos for a really strong (and good) margarita.  Enjoyed the hammocks for awhile, took the obligatory picture by the naked beach sign (with clothes) and went to Coconuts.  Had some awesome chicken nachos there.  Then on to Playa Bonita.  Enjoyed some crab (fake) tacos there, which were very good.  Our last stop was Paradise Bar for another margarita (so so).  Thanks to all (Panchita, John, Adrian) for the advice on must-see places on the East side!  That is definately a must do from now on.

I'm missing Coz already and look forward to a speedy return!
