Cozumel Trip Report
Posted by Melody on 10/01/01

I just returned from the El Cozumeleno on 9/24/01 and I have a few things that I would like to share about my experience.  We arrived on Friday 9/21 at about 1:00 p.m. and we were given a room immediately.  I asked if I could pay extra to get upgraded from the garden view room to the deluxe, and I was given the upgrade at no charge.   The room that we were given was very
nice. It was in the new section of the hotel and it had a beautiful view of the pool area and the ocean.  The pool area is huge and even has a shaded pool with a waterfall.  (Nice and private).  The staff at the hotel was wonderful!!!!  They remembered our names and called us by name the entire time that we were there.

We only have a couple of complaints.......  First, the food was awful. We only ate two meals there and the rest of the time we ended up buying our own food at restaurants down town.  All of the meals were served outside at the hotel, except for dinner (if you have reservations).  It would't have been so bad eating outside, except for the flies and birds nearly ate more than we did.  Second, the alcohol selection is very limited.  If you like tequila slammers and Sex on the Beach drinks, you'll be fine.  Just don't go there thinking that you'll get anything like a blue hawaiian or anything with Kahlua or Baileys.  (I recommend the tequila slammers.....uno, dos, tres!!!!)   And lastly, due to the lack of tourism, many of the "extras" were closed down.  The disco, karaoke bar, sports bar and the mini golf course were all closed down.  On top of that, the hotel only put on one show the entire time that we were there.  We were forced to go into town to find entertainment.  Which ended up not being such a bad thing...... I would highly recommend going to Carlos-n-Charlies.  They now how to have a good time!!!  Also, we had a good time dancing at Viva Mexico.  As far as food in town, you can't go wrong at the Hard Rock Cafe.  They have American food for those of us that are picky eaters!!!

We had a great trip, as a matter of fact probably the best trip that we have ever had.  We probably won't do all inclusive again though, because we spent just as much money drinking and eating outside the hotel as we did on the all inclusive package.

One last thing....we found out at the end of the trip that a cab ride into town is really only $3 and we had been paying $4 the entire weekend.  Just tell the cab driver that all you have is $3 and they will take it!  I hope that helps!!!
