Cozumel Trip Report

Trip report - Iberostar

Just arrived back to the land of ice & snow (northern Michigan)after a week of pure paradise in the land of Coz.  This was our first trip south - stayed at the Ibero and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing stay. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately groomed...service staff is definately world-class.  Everyone there is very friendly, curteous, and competent.  Enjoyed the food and drinks...especially El Serape although a couple of nights at the buffet were outstanding also.  El Cedral was good but not our favorite.  The snorkeling from the beach was a good place to learn - I am a weak beginning swimmer and needed a very "easy" atmosphere to learn the ropes.  Still saw a dozen variaties of fish but nothing spectacular.  The Tulum/Xel-Ha tour was amazing...our guide Juan (Maya Riviera Tours) was extremely knowledgeable of the archeology at Tulum which made the site really come alive for us.  Xel-Ha was fantastic...spent about 4 hours snorkeling among gorgeous scenery & exotic fish - even got within a meter of a 4 or 5 foot long Barracuda!  Skipped the dolphin shows, enjoyed the food & drinks too. One trip into town was enough for me...picked up a couple souvenirs, played a round of Mini-Golf (as usually Rebecca kicked my butt), checked out the beachfront etc. Crowded with cruiseship people and just not my first choice for a good time.  The resort is so laid back & comfortable...no pressure but still lots of activities.  The theatre was noisy (our room was fairly close on the opposite side #6611) and occasionally there was a sulphur smell from the jungle but no big deal at all.  I prefer a firm mattress so the bed was comfortable, lots of hot water at high pressure, and plenty of room for the 2 of us.  Can't say enough about the staff...they make all the difference.  If only we had service like that in the USA...anyway sorry for rambling on but we're counting the days till we can go back!
