Trip Report - Allegro Resort

Allegro- This was our first trip to Cozumel and I was very happy with our choice of Hotel. It is a ways from town but has the best beach I seen. The food was great and the service above average. The grounds are very nicely kept and laid out very well. The only downsides to this resort is the bad sewer smell that comes from the waste treatment area near the tennis courts. If the wind is right it can be very nausious. Secondly is the poor sound proofing in the rooms. The first 5 nights we had two young guys next to us who brought home different girls every night, it was like living next to a porn shop. You can hear every word, cough, moan etc. in those rooms. If you get neighbors who respect the poor sound proofing it isn't so bad. I would not hesitate to stay at Allegro again though.

Dive Palancar- I was very, very happy with their dive operation. Excellent boats and dive masters. They are not a cattle operation at all. Maximum amount of divers per DM is 8 and they let the divers choose where they want to dive. Always left the dock within 15 minutes of scheduled departure. Great bunch of guys.

Car Rental- I highly recomend getting a car for at least a few days. The driving there is very easy and safe compared to Jamaica. I wouldn't drive in Jamaica if the car rental was free. We rented for 6 days from Smart Car for 22.50 a day with the internet coupon. We had a new VW bug in perfect condition. They provide free pick-up and drop off at our resort. Make sure you make note to every scratch or defect at time of rental.

East Side- We did a road trip twice to the east shore and had a great time. Coconuts is a neat place and so is Mezcalito's. Mezcalito's has killer Margarita's and shrimp that is to die for, but their restrooms would make a billy goat puke.
Playa Moreno has the best beach for swimming on the east side.

San Miguel- A neat, busy little town. Don't look for great deals here though, they hold their prices. We found some of our best deals when we were leaving at the airport at gate "A" past the metal detectors. We did the Carlos and Charlies thing and had a good time but I must admit I'm getting too old for all that whistle blowing in my ears. Be sure to visit the mini golf while your in town. Sally & Scott are really cool people and they bring you cocktails while your playing the course. Neat tropical layout.

Snorkeling- Dzul Ha is a great place to see some cool stuff and it's free. The staff is friendly and the drinks were reasonably priced.

All in All- I will certainly be going back to Allegro next year. I can go there twice for what Jamaica has cost me in the past. Don't get me wrong, I still like Jamaica but Coz is so much cleaner, modern, friendlier, and a lot less pressure from the merchants to buy. Thank you to everyone that helped make this trip a blast.

Another one hooked.....Adious from Green Bay
