Cozumel Trip Report Trip report My husband and I just returned from our first Cozumel trip with hopefully more to come! We stayed at the Iberostar resort and contrary to all the negative comments I had read on several posts regarding all-inclusives, it was right down our alley. We wanted a resort away from all the people and hustle and bustle of town and I don't think we could have chosen better!I would highly recommend to anyone who is considering a trip to Cozumel to follow this message board for a month or so prior to departure. The advice helped us tremendously and made our trip much more enjoyable! Thanks... Monday, our arrival day, began beautifully with a wonderful frozen drink as we checked in. We requested a quiet room near the ocean away from the theater (on advice from others). They were happy to accomodate. The first day we spent orientating ourselves to the resort and did a trial snorkel on the Iberostar beach. It had been awhile since we snorkeled last and we wanted to check our equipment we had brought with us. We had heard the snorkeling wasn't good there however we saw a large starfish and two stingrays. Not many fish but it was a good refresher course. Tuesday thru Thursday we had rented a car from Alamo in town. We had reserved it prior to arrival and had taken in a faxed confirmation for $22.50 per day for a Chevrolet Chevy. We were glad we had the confirmation because they questioned the price but no problems once we presented it. We declined comprehensive insurance and held it on our credit card for insurance coverage. $5.00 per day liability charge. Not a bad deal since we saw many from our resort paying $60 per day plus insurance from Executive. It pays to do your homework... Alamo did give us a ride back to the hotel upon turning in the car. We snorkeled at Dzul-Ha on Tuesday afternoon and drove to the East side in the evening. Played in the waves and enjoyed walking along the beaches. This is definately the most awesome part of the island. It was a shame however the amount of trash that has accumulated on the beach. Wednesday we awoke early (as we did every day in anticipation of the days activities) and headed out to Chankanaab Park. We arrived prior to 8:00 in the morning and had the entire place to ourselves for about 2 hours; very nice! I have read so many differant opinions on this Park but I must say we were very pleased with the snorkeling. However, I don't think I would have enjoyed it once all the people started herding in from the cruise ships. We saw a VERY large baracuda which I got an awesome picture of. Eventhough it scared me half to death, that was the highlight of the snorkeling adventure. I had taken bread from the hotel and was surrounded by fish the entire time. Once the baracuda was sighted however, the fish food was put away and never removed again. When the crowds started arriving, we toured the botanical garden, ruins, lagoon and museum and packed up our gear. We returned to snorkel around 5:30 when the crowds cleared out and snorkeled until they closed at 7:00. Thursday morning we headed out to the East side once again to walk the glorius beaches before having to return the Chevy. Took a very quick trip into town to purchase t-shirts. Shops were annoying as they tried everything to convince you into entering and buying their merchandise. Once again, we were trying to stay away from the crowds so this was the reason for the short stay in town. Depression began to set in; it was our last full day of vaction... We headed to the airport Friday morning for our trip home to Missouri. An overall view of our resort - A+! Very attentive staff. A tip here and there paid off. Food was always fresh and varied. We always ate in the buffet and once at the steakhouse. We didn't swim in the pool; we can swim in clorine back home but it was vey well maintained. The grounds were immaculate. Not only did they use handheld clippers to trim the grass but we watched them pick up the cut blades and put them in a trashbag. Service was quick and they kept our drinks full and plates cleared. Flamingos, parrots and tucans were a nice touch around the grounds. We watched the night show once and it was kinda corny. However, our neighbors went every night and they enjoyed it. The rest of our evenings were spent on the beach or pier gazing out into the ocean or watching the sunset. Can't wait for our next vacation. Reality sets in as tomorrow is Monday and work returns.
