Comments: Details, details………………..
We got to Allegro, for check in, and I asked if we could get a fridge & upstairs closer to the water. He said he fridge, then looked at my reservation. My travel agent had asked for a fridge for me & I had also e-mailed “guest services” at the hotel asking for one. He then gets on the radio and says I get a fridge after all. Pretty handy to take a frozen bottle of water when ya head to the beach.
Rooms were just like I remembered them from years back, & I think the grounds are even nicer. We were in 5611.Good location and not as noisy as I expected………but to be honest, the whole place was normally quiet. Room was kept clean and always got 2 or 3 bottles of water per day.
Breakfast was always good. Didn’t make the buffet for lunch very often since the snack bar is so good & handy. Dinner buffet was always good also. Better than average A.I. food to us. Bring bug spray because the skeeters will get ya going to eat dinner at dusk.
We quickly learned to go to the steps on the left side to get up to the dinner buffet instead of the ramp where the time share guys ambush you.
Since one of us forgot to pack long pants for me, we never tried the reservations rest.
The beach was great & very clean. One time I looked from the water, & there were 2 other couples on the beach! One employee said the resort was at app. 50% capacity.
We hung out a lot in the “relaxation” pool a lot, and normally never had over 2 other people in the pool with us. Very nice.
My wife did the parasail thing, and said it was pretty good.
Made friends with a guy named “Philberto”. Look for him and tell him “the 2 big guys with the big cups” said Hi. He comes around picking up empty glasses in a white bucket.
Be friendly to him, and he’ll also bring drinks to you anywhere as he makes his rounds.
The couple traveling with us said everything was just about as nice as the Iberostar down the road.
Went to town a few times……….. $17.00 one way, but we usually waited in the Lobby & paired up with another couple going too.
Went to Mezcalito’s one evening. Cab from resort to Mezcalito’s (with a 1-1/2 hour drink break), and on around the south end of the island back to the resort + $45. Great since I don’t drive down there!
We always eat once at Pancho’s Backyard, but this was probably our last time. Every year, it seems the food isn’t quite as good, and the prices have really gone up. Probably because of the cruise ships. We bought a few shirts & trinkets, and it’s real obvious that prices really go down as ya get farther from the cruise ships.
Drinks & snacks at Casa Dennis……………… always good.
I’m sure I’ll think of more……………..
Steve
