Finally got back...was supposed to return on September
11...planted my feet on American soil September 16th.
Had a wonderful time.
Iberostar:
I have been there before so new what to expect. Took 2 of my friends.
I had a welcome letter and a baket of fruit in my room of choice upon
arrival. The grounds were exceptional and very clean. Bright
foilage all around. The staff was great. Our room was on the
bottom floor by the pool...no room up above...a tall thatch roof. The
girls loved the tropical setting.
The drinks were great!!!! As much liquor as you wanted. The shows
in the theatre were cute...Saturday night they bring in professionals.
The food....oh the food....Every night a different theme. Prawns...smoked
salmon, shrimp, roasted pig, lobster and then steak at your own thickness and
cut. The service was just great. We had always requested the same
waiter for dinner. He always new what we drank. The monday night
before I was to leave...he brought to the table a box ful of mexican cookies
to take back to the states. Well, that didn't happen because we didn't
leave. The waiters in the disco bar were very nice and always served our
table. They were all kind. I told my girlfriends to plan on taking
about $125.00 in $1.00 bills for tipping. That is what I usually take.
When we couldn't get out the Iberostar dropped our rates to $50.00 a day
instead of $100.00 per day. The service was just as great. No
difference. They were very kind. That Tuesday all the Americans
were pretty somber so we stayed in our rooms watching the american channel...cnn.
Finally by Thursday we just had to turn it off and go with the flow.
So we all went to the pool and the bartender at the pool said all
Americans needed to get happy. Well, in Cozumel...that means tequilla....well
we drank and drank....One of our friends started playing american CD's...and
we rocked...and drank and rocked...Finally at 8p.m. we all went to our rooms
and got dressed for dinner...all of the americans new each other quite well by
now...we are the only ones there. That night they had again Lobster and
steak. Great!!!!!! We had food for lunch the next day at the
beach...On saturday...their Independence Day...a major celebration...games in
the lobby....great food...party, party..party...I like the special touches
they do...if it is raining they bring an umbrella to your room. When I
went to town...they offered the umbrella.
We went to town about 4 times that week. Rented a car. Drove
around the Island...beautiful over there...ate at coconuts...view was great.
I didn't see. Stopped by Havanah's to see Nick...his regular hang
out...Went to Carlos and Charlies, Cafe Salsa, Regga and Rock, Karoke...we
stayed out till 5:30a.m. on Monday. Went to the Square on Sunday. Had
to go to the huge grocery store and buy some things before we left.
Diving....for the first time...
Got certified in Oklahoma...Nick...told me to dive with Dive Planacar...best
advice I ever had. I bought 10 dives and they picked me up at the
Iberostar every morning at 8:30a.m. The divemasters there are great.
They handled me with kid gloves until I got the hang of it. Mario,
Irene, George, and William take really great care of you. I saw a toad
fish, eels, sea cucumbers, lobster, nurse sharks and grouper. The
biggest starfish. The boat never had more than 8 divers to a divemaster.
The really were great...can't say enough about them. Carlos was
exceptional. When I washed my equipment in the water tank...I left my
mask and snorkel in there...I was worried...they said no problem...they would
find it and they did...next day...right there. While I dove, the other
girls snorkeled with them...for $45.00 each..they had lunch and drinks and had
a ball. They also para sailed with them. They said it was great.
Well, that is my trip report. If anyone has any questions don't hesitate
to ask.
Thanks to all on the board for great advice. Nick, a presonal thank you.
