How is it possible for 12 days to go by so quickly??!!
This won't be a typical trip report because there were many days when we did
nothing other than lay on the beach and enjoy a few (many) cervezas.
Once again, we didn't get around to doing many of the things we had hoped to.
Tulum will just have to wait one more year for us to visit. Sally
& Scott - I don't know how all the evenings got away from us, but I
promise to be there for a visit in three weeks!!
We made so many awesome, new friends this trip. We also had the great pleasure
of meeting up with some friends from previous trips. I can't tell you
how wonderful you all are. I am truly blessed to have met you and
consider you my friends.
While we were waiting for our luggage at the airport I see someone waving on
the other side of the glass. It was Panchita and Alicia with COLD SOL
for us. Now, is that a couple of good buddies or what?!
We met up with dear Nick on our first night on the island. Nick and I
met briefly on a previous trip and I think he is just one cool guy. We
had enjoyed listening to his stories over a few (many) cold ones. We
also met Allison (Scuba with Allison) when she popped in for a quick drink
with Nick.
We had several great evenings in the Havana Club hanging out with our favorite
bartender, Edgar. He makes us some unusual but very tasty drinks.
We spent time, but not nearly enough, with Christi (bluextseadiving.com).
We did go out diving with her one dive op one day, however, Christi was
recovering with a serious bout of bronchitis so wasn't to be on the boat with
us. She runs a top notch company! Christi has adjusted to Cozumel
life very well. Next time I promise to come and see the house - maybe
I'll be able to find it this time.
We had the pleasure of meeting and spending time and several laughs with
Panchita (Frances). It was fun sitting around Playa Azul
"girl" chatting with you about all the "hoochie women".
Next year, same time, same place - deal?! Also, get those taxes
done and get your fanny down for carnaval.
Janie is, as you may know is on a three month trip (yep, I said three months).
Now here is a girl that looks like she is made for island life...she
drives like it t :) Watch out for those cops! I hope you decide to stay
permanently so you are always there when I come to visit.
The two Mikes from the French Quarter are a couple of great guys and we had so
much fun sitting at the "riff raff" table with the rest of the gang.
Ritz crackers are on the way, Mike.
Our friends Terri2 and Peter came down while we were there. We had too
many fun nights out with them...including one Carlos & Charlies night
where we enjoyed a few (many) too many cocktails. What were we thinking?

Chas...what a character you are! After chatting with you electronically
for over a year, it was so much fun to finally meet you. You are exactly
what I expected...to a "t". (That is a good thing, by the
way). Get on the board and give everyone an update, will ya.
Leo, now I know what is behind that sense of humor you use on the board.
This man is really a big teddy bear.
And of course, my favorite island man, Isidro. We had totally awesome
dives with Isidro, as always, and finally got to meet his new bridge.
Joan & Dick - We also spent many days, evenings with the Summer Place Inn
folks - namely Dijo. Again, after chatting for over a year it was so
much fun finally meet Joan and her husband Dick. What a fun couple. We
had so many great laughs. You'll all have to ask Dick about the beer
runs to Chedraui. The place just wasn't the same after you left!!!
Dan, Dallas, Joan & Dick:
Corki and I finally hooked up after several days of trying to find each other
on the island (either of us had a phone). Corki and Doug are down for 5
weeks (grrrrrr) while Doug finishes up his instructor training. Corki is
having a great time reading her books and enjoying Cozumel life. She has
also set up the BBQ on Feb 28th so if you are going to be there, let her know!
Okay, who am I forgetting? I apologize if I left anyone out. I
didn't do a very good job with my journal - it was blank when I arrived home.
The 12 days are starting to blur together.
Our little home away from home was Summer Place in. Dijo had recommended
the SPI to us and we are very happy she did. Very nice! Our room
was great, king-sized bed, air conditioner, etc. The pool and sun areas
are very nice and the palapa kitchen severed as our breakfast nook in the
morning and our bar area in the evening.
We ate at several old, favorite restaurants
...Ernestos, French Quarter, Guidos & Manatis as well as a few new ones
with our favorites being Las Arrencherras by Jonny Bravo and the taco place on
65 across from San Francisco. Oh my god, were they good!
Many afternoons on the east side. Many of the little bars have been had some
upgrading and I noticed the bathrooms were actually very improved. I
think the bathroom at Chedraui was worse than any of the ones on the east
side. The garbage is still there :(
Several changes downtown are not an improvement in my opinion.
More and more small restaurants closing and more jewelry stores opening.
How many diamond stores does one place need? We spent very little
time in town this trip.
