Cozumel Trip Report
Posted by tut on 03/02/01

It ani't pretty, but here it goes, Lol!  ++

The Beginning, and day ONE.

Well, here we go, this could be a windy report, but I could go on for ever talking about Cozumel and all the wonderful people.

Out of town by 3PM on Tuesday, got to motel by 8PM, parked the car over in the back 40 somewhere, then off to bed by 9PM, up at 3AM to catch the 4AM shuttle to the airport, didn't need to be there til 5AM but we'd rather wait 30min in the front of the line than 45min in the back. We were first in line, got our boarding pass and then off to get some coffee.  Meet up with John at the gate around 6:30 then off and out of here. The plane was right on time, no de-ice and we landed in Cozumel 5 minutes early. First off the plane, first to go through customs but just about the last to get our bags, Green light, over to the Mafia Cab counter, $8.00 and we are off to the Hacienda San Miguel, except the Cab driver didn't know where it was, so we got to see the down town area a couple of times before we got to the Hotel. Nicole was there to greet us with her big smile, and to show us our room and what a room it was, Ground floor with a setting area out front, you walk into this big kitchen area with table, chairs,everthing one could need, then to the right an alcove with a queen size bed then the biggest bathroom I think I've ever seen in a Hotel, Two big closets with safe, color TV and radio, what more could one ask for. We put all our stuff away, then John, Corey and Jody came over and we make plans for supper, then off to get the CAR. We get to Alamo, meet Freddie and within minutes we have our VW Bug. Sign the forms, make a few notes on a couple of dings then we are off, over to the Supermarket too pickup some SOL, melons, cheese, etc. Then we just drive around to get our bearings as to what is where and the best way to get there. Back to the Hacienda, shower then off down the street to get our picture taken by the WEB CAM, we make it and we were the last shot of the day, then the shop owner waves us into the store, we tell him how everyone from Travel Notes watches the CAM sight, well, I may  not of explained it well enough because the next day he moves the CAM to a location that one has to go across the street if they want to be on it, go figure. Back down the street to meet up with John, Corey & Jody for supper at Pancho's Backyard. The food here was just great, a little $$ but Very good, Deb & I had the Grouper, it's served on its own little grill, with rice & vegie. We stay and visit for some time talking about plans for the next few days etc. Deb & I head back to the Square for a little walk around, then back to the Hacienda for some much needed sleep.

More tomorrow.

Day 2, sorry but long, it was a full day!  ++

Day 2  Cozumel 2001

Thursday, the day started out bright and sunny, Deb & I walked down to the Museum for breakfast, (this became an everyday thing), I had a Mexican Omelet and Deb had the pancakes and sausage. The Omelet was out of this world, can't tell you all what was in it, but it was great, a little on the Hot side, but that's what I like. Deb said the pancakes were very good, but she didn't care for the sausage, (they don't put any species in their sausage, more like plan ground pork).

Fishing boat getting ready to go to the north end for spear fishing. View from our breakfast table.

Then back to HCM to grab our stuff and off to Play Azul Beach club. Very nice beach area, small but very nice. I tried to do some snorkeling here but found it to be not very good, not many fish or coral. I had a number of Sol's then we tried to walk the beach to the north toward Hotel Paradisus, had to go out and around a few buildings but was able to make it all the way, not much beach here either, very rocky, not a good place to go without something on your feet, Da, I got the cuts to show for it. Back to Azul, ordered lunch, now this was worth the trip to Azul. I had the Chicken Fajita, Woo, was this a great choice, Deb (got to teach this girl what to order), had Fried Chicken and Fries, said it was ok but not great, (one doesn't go to Mexico and order American food, is that a no brainer or what?) Anyway I was very  very  pleased with my Fajita.
After lunch, we packed up our stuff, and down the road to Mr. Sancho's beach club.

Deb taking it all in at Mr Sancho's Beach Club,  Lol.

Few more Sol's, a swim and a snorkel, again not the best place to snorkel but a great beach, one could walk for miles in either direction, this is what Deb likes.

North of Sancho's

Back to HCM a shower & Sol, and get ready for the Thursday Chat at Scott & Sally's.

This is living man.

We walk over to the Mini Golf, say Hi to Scott & Sally, drop off some pens from Mike S. give Sunshine a bag of treats, which she doesn't seem to care for, and Deb & I are off to supper before the Chat at 7PM. We head over to the Sonora Grill, which will soon become our favorite in very short order. Deb and  I order the ajo camaron (garlic shrimp) and this by far was our favorite of all favorites. You get 5 large prawns, split down the middle, grilled in garlic butter along with a baked potato half that is grilled with the cut half down, and veggies, We had this 3 times during the week, Oh, it was so goood.

Sonora Grill, can ya see the smiles of contentment. Oh baby that's good eaten.

Off to the Mini Golf and the Chat.

Scott & Sally, I want to say here what a great time we had, Thanks for all the great Information, and for being a great Host. The Chat and Mini Golf was one of the highlights of our week on the Island, Thanks again.

Anyway, Sally, John, Corey & Jodie , Dan & Coleen, Deb & I Chatted, over a few Sols (you see a pattern starting here) then decided to play a round of Mini Golf. Well, it's all down hill from here, Corey gets, not 1 but 2 hole in one on the first 2 holes, (time for more Sol) he was unbearable for the rest of the night. (Note; just as we started to play, "I'm going to get in trouble here" I say Rose, & Deb say Sue, came up to the Chat but didn't want to play because they had to go and pack, for they were leaving on Friday morning) OK, back to golf, it was great fun and yes, Corey won the free game, but I got some free Sol somehow, Thanks Sally.

The Goffers, (golfers) somewhere out there on the course.

Back to HCM, after a walk around the square, and what a great day it was, more tomorrow.

OK, Thru. & Fri, hope I don't blow a fuse here!

The rest of the story;

Well I'm not going to be able to drag this on for five more days, so I'll just give ya the highlights.

Thursday; Deb & I went over to Moby Dick show center to watch the little kids Costume Contest, now these were little Kids, 1, 2 & maybe 3 years old, what a Hoot, some had floats they rode, and some just walked around, I guess it wasn't hard to see who had $$ and who didn't, but they were all just great.
                                    A few of the Kid groups on Parade;

Just a few pics of the Costume Contest;

Then off to the Beach;

Friday; after breakfast at the Museum, we stayed around and watched the Costume Parade for the Kids.  What a great place to watch from, we had a table right on the street, and could see the whole thing, 100's of kids, all set in groups, and the groups were dressed alike.

After the Parade, off to the east side, took our cooler, with melon, cheese, SOL, etc. found a sandy beach, had lunch, and spent the rest of the day just sunning and combing the differant beach areas, stopped at Coconut's, great view from here, then back to HSM for shower and a night on the town. We ate at Manati's, what great food, Pearl wasn't around this night, or the owner, but a lady that said she know how everything was cooked was willing to take over for us. So a friend of hers waited on us, I think she just pulled her off the street, and we had a great meal, I had the Lasagna, Deb the Chicken, then we split a peace of lemon pie, Wooo! Out of this world, they didn't understand the 2 for 1 card, so the meal was a little $$ but worth it. Then off to the square, and another walk about.

Sat, 2/24th, Dzul ha

Saturday; Same old same old, breakfast at Museum, off the Dzul Ha for the day, what a great place to snorkel and spent time in the sun. Joe, the new owner of the South Patio, was just putting on the finish to the deck, and said he would be open on Sunday, (it was), so we stayed on the North patio, (these two Patios our owned separately but within the same family, so they share the same things, except the sales, Da, go figure this one) anyway, great time, great sun, great snorkeling and oh yes, Cooold SOL w/lime.

                                           A few pics of underwater at Dzul Ha;

                This guy was a good 3 to 4 ft long,(Rainbow P=fish

Back to HSM, shower, up town for early supper and find a place to watch the Carnaval Parade. Saturday and Sunday, we ate up town at one of the Food tents, this was something else, great food, and cheap, On Saturday, Deb and I each had four Tacos 4 pork and 4 beef, then we each had a pork sandwich, which I can't remember the name, and the largest SOL I've ever drank, it was big and I mean Big.

Sat Night & Parade,+

Back to HSM, shower, up town for early supper and find a place to watch the Carnaval!  Paarade.

                    Great Food, & Cheap, just had to go back

Then off to the Parade. This thing went on for ever, it started down by city Hall all the way down Ave. Rafel E. to 10th and back again, and these Kids, some not Kids at all, danced all the way to some of the loudest and best music on the Island. Then back to the square, which was wall to wall people, just great, and some of the dance groups would come up to the stage area and dance some more, and this went on for three nights, Great time, just Great.

Some of the Parade;

Sunday night Parade, mor pics.

Back to HSM, shower, and back up town for more food in the park, and 2nd nigh of Parade. After Parade back to the square for more fun and games and another BIG Sol.

                                                 More Parade;

Monday, North side, (not worth the $150) but was fun anyway. +

Monday; Same O' Same O', meet up after breakfast with our Jeep tour, for a run to the north side, we leave at 10:15AM and off we go. Out of the 6 hrs we were gone, we spent a good 4hrs in the jeep bouncing over rocks and sand, not good on the kidneys, the sights were great, but I don't think I would spent another $150.00 for the trip again, I thought we got to go to the north light house, Not, about 5miles short of it, but then, what do you expect for $150.00, Right.Lol.
On the way back from the north end, we run across 3 Rent a Jeeps stuck in the sand, said they couldn't get the 4 wheel drives to work, (that's because they are disconnected, Da.) Anyway, they looked like boat people anyway, and there was 6 good size guys, who looked like they could pick them up one at a time and carry them off, so we didn't stop and help.  Just pass the sand pit, there, big as you please, sets this late model Chevy leisure Van with Colorado Lic. Palates on it, waiting for its turn to be buried alive, how the hell he got as far as he did, beats the heck out of me, but then......,( I won't go there, I like Chas too much).
Back to HSM, for a much needed shower, and a nap. Monday night we did our shopping for the kids etc. and back to Sonora's for more Shrimp. Early bed tonight, no Parade and I needed the rest.

                              few pics of the north side.

Tuesday, THE END!

Tuesday; Last full day in Oz land, off to Dzul Ha for one more snorkel swim, and then down to Mr. Sancho's for one last sun and beach. Had to return the car by 4PM, now that is the dumbest thing I think I did all trip, tell them I would return the VW at 4PM, why not 5 or 6 or even 9AM the next morning, anyway, had to cut our beach time short to get the car back, Stopped at "Chedraui", much like a Cozumel WalMart, and just looked around, great prices and the fresh fruit and veggies etc. this will be one of our first stops next year. Return the VW. Not a problem, in and out in 5 minutes, Freddy is not one for small talk, could be that he was a little peed because I booked over the net for $128.00 for the week, he did mention, that I should email him direct next time, he give me good rate. (Why would I want to do that?) Anyway, back to HSM, up to the square, fine a good place to watch the last Parade, take 2 bags of candy for the kids, this was great, there was a bunch of kids setting on the wall where we were, and after I asked each of their parents, (with a lot of sign language that is) if it was ok to give the kids candy, each one of them said gracias then they would only take 1 peace. The smiles were worth a million, but after a little while, one by one they would come back and just stand there, and I would give them more candy, but this time they each would take 2 or 3, and when I would give it to them, another gracias and a big smile, that was almost worth the whole trip, just to see those beautiful smiles. (Damn I miss Coz).
Well kids, that is about all there is in a nut shell, Deb & I have already made Reservations for next year at the HSM  for 10 days, with the option of 2 weeks if we want. So come next Feb. 6th, (the good Lord willing) we will be back in Cozumel, and we will be there for CARNAVAL 2002.
YA JUST GOT TA LOV IT!!!!

                           Last few pics, til next year.

          ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END!  Lol!!!!
