The completion of the open water training for certification is called the "Referral" or "Check-Out" dives. This course is for those students who have already completed academic and pool training portion of the certification. The student must bring a signed referral form from their instructor.

The Referral Course normally takes 2 half days to complete. 4 check out dives. You will need to set aside 2 half days. Due to regulations, the dives must be done in two separate days.

Day 1. 9 am to 12 noon (may be longer - depends on dive shop and student skills). Review of skills. 2 dives.

Day 2. 9 am to 12 noon (may be longer - depends on dive shop and student skills). 2 dives.

Most dive shops offer the Referral for PADI, NAUI and SSI certifications
