Cancun to CozumelTraveling between Cancun - Tulum and Cozumel Rates and schedules are subject to change without notice and this page is for information purposes only. Please note the exchange rate fluctuates.
Direct By Air Cozumel Island, Mexico has an international airport on the island so many airlines fly directly to the island. Unfortunately, during low seasons, not all departure cities offer direct flights to the island. These flights usually fly directly to Cancun and then a very short connecting flight is taken to Cozumel Island, Mexico. Many travel agencies, tour operators, hotels and airlines offer air/hotel packages as well as air flights only.
Via Cancun (See map of Cozumel). Cancun Airport
1. Fly from Cancun to Cozumel: approximately 20 minutes flying time. 2. Airport Transfer "Collectivo" or minivan direct from Cancun airport to Playa Del Carmen (approximately 50 minutes traveling time), then Ferry to Cozumel (approximately 55 minutes traveling time). Current cost is $15 US per person. After baggage pick-up, as you walk towards the exit, there will be booths for transportation and taxis. Go all the way to the exit doors. Just before the exit on the right, there is a booth for the official ground transportion system "Ground Transportation and Taxi Service" - see below. Also, right outside the doors, there is another booth with "TAXI" signs and a large red lit sign for long distance. These are the two places where you can buy tickets for the official ground transportation system at the best prices. There will be a map and prices listed on at the booth. At the booth, ask for a collectivo to Playa Del Carmen. You pay at the booth and you will receive a ticket PER PERSON. Proceed outside to where the minivans are and look for a driver/van with the same logo or name as printed on your ticket. They will take your ticket and load your luggage. As soon as one van is filled, the van departs. The vans are readily available all day long. You do not need to purchase tickets in advance. Warning: There are tons of timeshare sales people at the airport who will pretend to know who you are or said to be representing your hotel. Do not pay attention to these people unless you are interested in timeshare. They will offer tours and gifts for a half day presentation.
3. Express Bus from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen Bus Terminal (Traveling time is the same as in #2) Same as above (#2) except you will purchase bus tickets and there will be greyhound like buses outside. They are scheduled.
4. Pre-arranged airport transportation. Pre-arranged transportation is not necessary and tends to be more expensive. Once in Playa Del Carmen: The drop will be downtown near or at the bus terminal in Playa Del Carmen. 10 minute to the ferry pier - just walk towards the waterfront. Diagonally across (right side) the bus terminal, there is a booth for "Cozumel Ferry". You can purchase your tickets there. (If it's closed you can buy it at the booth on the left side of the ferry pier.) With luggage, the easiet direction is to walk along this street all the way until you see "Carlos 'n Charlie". Then turn left and you will see the waterfront and the ferry pier. Just before the pier, there will be 2 booths selling tickets. Cost is the same. Time is the same. "Ultramar" is a newer boat. Then you will need to wait in line.
